    Paul,
your IAB badge looks good to me. Of course better pictures wouldn't hurt.

There is no doubt in my mind that Chet would NEVER knowingly offer a repro for sale as original!

        Sal,
Thanks! Indeed I would not. This IAB is presently listed in the fakes gallery of the forum. Everytime this thread comes up I feel more the idiot.

From the pictures posted by Philippe, it looks to me like this badge was cast from brass, and then artificially aged/darkened, possibly with a gun bluing agent. This is just one more lesson on why we have to scrutinize even the most common of items. As Don mentioned, sometimes we grab up common items because with just a quick glance it looks ok. This same thing happened to me on several occasions. I once bought a Westwall Medal that was lead. The ribbon on this medal was definitely original and that is why I bought the medal. I had seen so many original medals paired with fake ribbons, that when I saw the real ribbon, I assumed the medal was good also. The medal looked ok with a quick glance, but it would have never passed the bend test. This was not the mistake of a young, naive collector either. It happened quite recently. What happened to me, and what happened to Chet, can happen to any of us. I consider Chet a friend and fellow collector. I too have complete faith in his integrity.

            Best regards! Tom
