    Bronze JFS IAB on Estand

    Gentlemen,
I recently listed a bronze JFS IAB on estand. Suspicions have been raised as to its legitimacy. The measurments are spot on. The weight is on the heavy side at 29.9 Thanks for your help.

Can you tell what the base metal is?

Hi Chet im no expert on these but i did own one at one time. The concern i have is i would expect to see a little more inner detail to the wreath. The 5-6 o clock position looks a little flat to what i was used too. The catch has a strange look about it,and weathering on the reverse seems a little artifical (this could be the down to the pic) Like i say im no expert on IAB s and this is just my opinion. See what others make of it. Its a hard call. All the best

Might be the picture, but the rifle butt looks too straight compared to mine.

There again IAB's are not my area of interest.

          Cheers,

          Spike

Chet's IAB looks to be made of Tombak to me. JFS also applied a nice thick finish to there badges that is still evdent on the reverse and in the low places on the front. I liken it to the massive Wurster PAB. I will add that IABs aren't my specific area though I do follow the discussions.

Hi Chet, I have had a bunch of these over the years, and from the pictures I do not like the finish on yours. It does not appear to be zinc with the burnishing that I am used to seeing.

Compare acorns, rifle sling and grip on bayonet in addition to above mentioned.

I also notice a considerable difference where the top left oak leaf touches what would be the eagle's right wing, or the left wing as we view it....

Chet already contacted me about this one. We did a quick comparison of weights and measures and everything was within a couple of mm. Just the weight seems about 3 grms to much. The same size just about rules out that this is a cast copy I would say, the heavier weight could mean buntmetal.
I asked Chet if he can see any grey or bubbling, he can´t.

I would´nt want to be to quick to condem a badge before looking at all the angles, I admit it does look a bit "freaky".
Although there are small differences a lot is the same. Especially the setup seems spot on. I would like some more shots of hook/hinge and MM if possible Chet.

If this is a copy its a damm good one.
