As Skip suggested, I think getting shots of the catch will prove to be very interesting. They seem to be different. Have we seen fake JFS IAB's? Not that I recall, but there is always a first time I suppose.

Well, I looked at mine and compared the two. In addition to the differences already mentioned my badge also differs in terms of the berries on the wreathband, as well as the design of the rifle. But then again my wreathband also differs from that of the others posted, so maybe I should be aorried too?

If it is a fake, then someone went through a lot of trouble to even scoop out the rifle on the back, it is to my eyes defenitely not Zink, the level of wear sugests... buntmetal??? but I thought JFS only used Zinc for these pieces? Could the expression on the face be caused by heavy wear? If we look closely where the sling attaches to the front of the rifle, it is almost identical but appears to be heavily worn down when compared to mint originals. Could the finish on the back (dark areas) be indicative of the same type of finish used on the zinc ones?
Again I am on the fence on this one but there are too many similarities to just dismiss it right off the bat. Especially considering this is a JFS badge no one has ever seen before real or fake. I am not saying that a lack of evidence makes it a repro, but I am also not saying that the badge is authentic either, I am looking forward to seeing where this goes...
Anyone else have a JFS Buntmetal IAB? Can we get closer pics of the mm and of the pin, hinge and catch.

Hi Shane, Chet's badge is clearly from a different die than the accepted jfs iab. different eagle, acorns, rifle butt, sling, and metal. Bad feeling on this one as the set up is for the zinc model. I wanted to post late in this thread as I posted on the e-stand to have this badge discussed and did not want to bias the discussion any more.
For me, this badge is highly suspicious as it only imitates the JFS design but has many small things different. Even the setup is not spot on, it is considerably more fat, including catch and even the pin. As mentioned, this is not a setup for a badge that is not made of zinc. Edges on reverse are soft. SO not a casting from a good badge but maybe a new design produced by way of casting. A first for me to see this badge, but not a good first impression.Cheers, Frank

Since they are at a minimum not from the same die as yours Maybe compare a few diminsions. I measure the hinge at the widest point. 4.5mm 4.7mm 4.5mm 4.6mm and the thickiness of the pin on all four 1.2mm.Last edited by hi-revr; 05-10-2005, 05:18 PM.Comment

Thought I bring this back to the top to post some additional pics of Chet's JFS IAB. Although we already noticed that something was wrong from the pics posted this very strange badge doesn't stand a chance in a hand on inspection.
From the pics posted by Chet you might think it looks quite good but my god what a mess ones you hold it in your hands.
I think I let the pics do the talking. One of the worsed cast badges I have ever seen and I can only wonder why we didn't see more of them by now.
For the record here are the measurements
Original Hight 61,2mm Wide 47mm (measured at the central accorns)
Copie Hight 59,2mm Wide 45,8mm
