    War merit with swords

    Hello Colleagues!
I recently received this suspicious co called KVK cross. Can you please help me determine its originality.
It weights 20 grams and the rest suspiciousness are on the photos.
    Thank you in advance, Sigla.

On a second look I think it is a good Deschler marked cross.

I just checked one I have and it is 18/19g.

Looks to be a good Deschler to me as well. Although I can't say that I have seen this sort of hinge block on a KVK1 by this maker.

Checking Maerz/Stimson book a lot of the details on this cross jive with the examples in the book. Dimples in Oak Leaves, tears in the corners of the cross arms. Lines in the sword handles wrap around the edges.

          Couple of things don't.

Weight of with swords is given at 24.2g

The type of hinge block is not shown.

            Wayne,
I read the same thing as well and agree. A good straight on view of the obverse is needed as the pebbling and tears are not readily apparent in the pics supplied.

It's a classic Deschler horde KVKIX … I have one identical with it's wrappings.

                Ian,
I'm curious as I've never seen this hinge block on any of the hoard examples. Does your example have this type of hinge block?

Evening Chet, I will have to take a look when I get a chance … it won't be tonight unfortunately. From memory it's identical.

The maker marked one I have in my collection matches what appears in the book.

With the exception of one thing............the weight............mine is 19g.

The cross at the start of this thread looks okay to me. The extruded block hinge is typical of these.

Here is one for comparison. This example weighs 23.3 grams.

                          Best regards,
                          Tom
