    seen 10 year

I have seen 10yr NSDAP boxes the same as this one ,no reason why they wouldn't have made 15yr's this way also?

Thanks, Steve! I hadn't looked at 10 year boxes, and none of the 15 year ones I looked at had that style of lattice case, including the Mayer marked boxes. So between the one I posted and yours, that makes at least two unmarked/unknown maker crosses in a Mayer marked lattice type box. I guess not enough evidence to make a firm connection between this cross and Mayer, but I'll let those with more knowledge of these crosses conduct that debate. Your posting is a great help!

            Hi guys,

Quality of this cross looks very good, however its not one I recognize. Its definiately not a BH Mayer, but its also not one I have come across before. Quality-wise it looks very good to me though, can't really fault it at all.

Steve's cross looks to be the same type, and I also like the look of the quality of his cross.

The carton's are a different story, I agree with Tom that the texture and material looks exactly like the "lattice" fake LW boxes we are all know. Looking through my files, I had another M1/170 box with the same texture. This particular box came with an unmarked cross in it. Definately wasn't a Mayer, nor did it match Dale & Steve's type of cross shown here. But these boxes very commonly get switched around so who knows what was originally in it.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks, Tom. My friend was glad to find out that his is original. He has no provenance for it, other than he bought it at a show from a dealer many years ago. He told me that now he's sorry he didn't buy the 25 years medal that the guy also had for sale.

Boxes are definitely not my strong point, but the the wear and age on my friend's case and what I see on the ones you and Steve have posted sure look good to me; I can't see any signs that they have been artificially aged.

                15yr

Mine came from an online auction where some other nice original badges were offered this was the only piece that I won and I don't know if all the medals came from the same source? I see Emedals has a few examples on his site that match these crosses and on the website database and threads there are other examples the same shown and discussed,Weitze has a 10year cased on his site with the same type of case although marked differently. I know these observations are pure speculation and not concrete providence but I think the two sets are most likely good? Maybe Mayer changed its crosses later as well as its cases? One other detail of note is on my example ribbon as well as case do not react to UV light? Not a guarantee by any means but a positive for some. Also the embossed golden eagle logo on the case Obverse is extremely well executed.

                  Hi Steve,

I would be surprised if Mayer changed their designs, I would want alot more evidence than a marked case or two. These cases are notoriously mixed and matched unfortunately. I am not saying the case is good or bad, only that it was always together with this type of 10 Yr. Cross. Mayer also had no problem marking their medals, so that also makes me think these crosses, were made by someone else.
