    Boxed Mayer? 15 year NSDAP Medal

    Hello,
    I'm posting this for a friend who may sell it if it is original. He bought this a number of years ago at a gun show and has no provenance on it. I've never handled one of these before and know only what I saw in some quick research here on the forum, so really need your help. I saw that the copies of these are really good, so even though the RZM M1/170 mark, the box and the medal look good to me, they may just be really excellent copies.

    I apologize for the poor photos, but they were taken outside in late afternoon conditions and I was in a hurry. If more are needed I will try to get them, though it may take a week or so.

                        I have a set exactly the same only mine has the rarer narrow ribbon for awarding to women otherwise the same.

                          Hi Dale,

                          The box has the RZM M1/170 code for B.H. Mayer, but IMO the cross is not a B.H. Mayer. The cross does look good, but I think it is by a still unknown maker. The B.H. Mayer cross has a much thicker eyelet and the eagle's head is distinctly different. And the B.H. Mayer crosses are usually marked on the ring with the number '2' (a shortened version of Mayer's full RZM number for full-size NSDAP decorations: M11/2.) I am a bit puzzled by the box, though. It has a believable look to it, but I have never seen that lattice-type texture on one of these boxes. All the M1/170 marked boxes I have seen have a pebbled texture.

                              Thanks guys and Tom, I think you are correct on the medal not being a Mayer. As for the case, all the examples I saw (Mayer or not) on the WaF have only the pebbled texture as you say. In hand, though, the case felt and looked real, but now that you mention it, the lattice texture gives me pause. I recall that this type of texture is prominent on some fake LW cases.
