Well that was a nice wrap up and learning curve. Now I can identify my examples by association. Thanks Antonio.

*** Also noted, does'nt the type 6 border appear to be slightly broader than all other types?

          Thanks again guys!
Ray, the type 6 is not a piece we are 100% sure about. Until we found a medal bar with one mounted or we found a type 6 coming from a safe source or a picture with it in wear, no one of us can be sure of it. However I think, after some researches, it has good possibilities to be an original wartime piece.

            Bravo!

Thanks Antonio for a well-researched compilation of Data in producing this most welcome and needed thread on The Afrika Medal. I can finally categorize my Medal w/o posting it for opinions. Pete

Hi Darrel, no, some only in bronze alloy, some others in both bronze and zinc alloy, or only zinc.
In the book I'm workin on there will be a lot in info about.

Good Job Antonio! I have a question: The Maker Lorioli Milano is of each Medal, Type1- Type 4. You say only Type 1 is from Lorioli Milano but why is of every Medal the Name? Is Milano the town like Milan or Mailand? And Lorioli the company? De Marchis is the Designer of the Medal i think.

I dont know if you understand my question.. Its easier in german...

I found some more proofs and another type of medal that give us the "final touch". I'm sure now (and I will explain why in the book) the type 1-2-3-4 were produced from Lorioli in Milan; the type 5 from Souval in Wien, and the type 6 is still unknown.

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK TO THE NEW DATABASE, to avoid confusion on the different patterns.

                                - LORIOLI: is the name of the firm.
                                - MILANO: is the city in North Italy.
                                - DE MARCHIS: is the designer.

                                Here the type 6.

                                Type 6
                                From unknown maker.
