      Hello J C,

That is one outstanding collection of SS Long Service Medals. I really like the way you have them displayed too. Just wonderful!

            Tom,

Some great medal bars. I must say I'm not much into medal bars but they sure are nice. And civils sure are a dandy medal! The simplicity of them makes them really nice!

My vote is for Wehrmacht; specifically Luftwaffe.

I must say I am certainly surprised that the Wehrmacht Long Service award has the most votes. I would consider that my least favourite!

Perhaps the section this is posted in has rigged the results!

The WH long servce medal is my favorite -- the WH eagle on the front with the classic Germanic script captures the essence of WWII Germany IMO. I favor LW long service because LW is the focus of my collecting. A close second would be RAD long service, for the 'elegant', utilitarian design. SS are nice, but hold the least ammount of design imagination.

Just my opinion, and I respect others that hold completely different likes. Regardless, the furthering of the history, research, and hobby that matters most .

Upon reading the first post of this thread, to me the answer was simple - had to be the Army long service (4 or 12) all the way. But then as I looked down the thread, I saw two long service awards I'd not seen before that knocked my initial choice down into 3rd place. The customs variant looks very nice with it's iron cross style shape, but the NSDAP one pictured at the very start has to take first place on the podium.

Another thing I really like on some of the examples shown are the embroidered branch of service on some of the ribbons, which is again something I've not seen before. Far better than the metal devices most commonly seen.

Great idea for a thread that has educated me a little further once more.

gdfuseddie, I am glad you found this thread interesting and educational!

I am somewhat surprised we haven't had any votes for "other" I was sure the Danzig awards would capture the hearts of some! (Awards are not mine).

Some beautiful long service awards guys

I have a few armed forces and others like some pieces as already posted but I just rediscovered the attached NSDAP pair in a one (of a few) misplaced boxes I had put away when I stopped collecting over 30 years ago!

Weird pair with the massive tombac silver cross (unmarked) and the light weight anodized aluminum bronze (marked 21) so I'm not sure it was originally assembled that way given the medals are not sewn on this type of bar...It came with the lapel miniature set

                              Regards

                              JC

Wehrmacht LS Awards are growing on me.........

Thanks for all the great examples - here are two 25er's from my collection - you can clearly see the different eagles from different makers:
