Hello All,

The memellands medal i have, i bought from Blackcross, it's maker marked 16 stamped on the ring, which i think is the maker Alois Rettenmaier. it is made from solid bronze.

Does anyone know, is this maker known fakes.

How does it compare to Seba's "16", or to the good medals posted here? Can you post a picture of it?

What about this explanation, is this credible

It seems to me the only thing that we have to go on, to distinguish the fake from the genuine is the amount of Detail, what is being said is that to much quality in this medal makes it a fake.
But Bronze is a softish metal, good quality metal which would when stamping out this medal should hold more of the detail of the image/picture, as apposed to cheaper metals being used.

I'm not sure what the exact metal of my award is except that it is harder than I would expect solid bronze to be.

Seba, since your medal has the most detail posted here are you able to identify the metal of your award? Does it perhaps explain the extra detail.

Hard to say, but it could be.

If it helps, it weights 17g.

One is 13.35 g, another is 13.75 g, and the other two I can't separate from their ribbons.

Hi Guys,

I one I have is 15g, that’s as accurate as my household scales go I’m afraid.

I also weighed a Sudetenland medal and a Anschluss medal for comparison. Both of these medals were 10g, so the construction would certainly appear to be different.

Sorry for the late reply.

I e-mailed Alden Hamilton, at blackcross who i got mine from and he said the only fake ones that he have ever came across in all is years of examining these particular medals, were all poorly made.

I did say to him if it was finally settled and it was all agreed and they were fakes could i return it if in the future, he said i could return it Any time,
