4 Place ribbon bar with an uncommon 1939 spange

Here is one of my favourite ribbon bars from my collection. It's only a 4 placer, but it has the most beautiful 1939 spange I have encountered on a ribbon bar.

The design of this device is not commonly found.

    The other ribbons are:

    1934 Honour Cross for combatants.
    1938 Anschluss Medal
    1938 Annexation of the Sudetenland

I think it looks totally wacko, especially the date. Are there any previous "precedences"? Any known examples? Trying to educate myself here. . . .

            Hi Thomas,

I have many ribbon bars with the 1939 spange attachment. There are many variations all different sizes and shapes, from 6mm-15mm in size. The majority of them are common variations though. Even on the more common types there will be minor discrepancies, as these were stamped/die pressed, and then finished off by hand tools.

This example to my knowledge, is the only one I have seen to date in 12 years of collecting German ribbon bars. Making it uncommon. The design of it is rather fine compared to the run of the mill wiederholungsspange.

If you are a collector of ribbon bars you will also find huge variations across the board on long service devices. Different firms had different jewellers making the dies for these mini works of art.

I will try and post my variants up on here soon for you to see.

                Hi Alan!
Thanks for the info. I dont collect ribbonbars in particular, but I think they are nice items.
Your bird is what I would call a MAJOR discrepancy

And the cousin of Alan's ribbon bar....only my EK2 Spange is not as detailed as yours!

Great collage of EK2 Spanges Alan. There are indeed many many varients of these out there.

                    Best regards
                    Pierce

                      Hi Pierce,

Like the cousin bar your eagle will be nicely detailed too. Just need a magic camera lens .

If anyone has other examples it would be also interesting to see these here too.

Very nice collage The 9mm (no4 from left top row) also looks a bit wild and crazy, like someone took the wings of an EKI spange and put them on this one.

Thanks Alan. Yes the Spange is quite detailed for its size but alas my photographing skills are not exactly great!
