    Ostfront Medal - question

    Folks,

I've recently got a larger package of Ostfront medals - and with that some questions came up:

    Ribbon
Obviously, there are three different ribbons - is there a certain meaning to this?

    Silver or black frame
The left one on my picture for example has an silver outside, the other ones have black / grey outsides. Is that just depending on the maker or did this come due to a different level?

    Makers
As far as my eyes in combination with a pretty good magnifying glass can tell, my Ostfront medals are made by:

    - 77 silver
    - 19 black
    - 00 (?) silver and black
    - 60 black
    - 61 black
    - no MM silver and black

Sorry if this is the wrong catagorie - please move, if so.

    Thanks for your support!

USA_Kev, I had similar questions to you a while ago. Here is the post that might help you out. I'm not a computer pro, so I don't know if this will work. If the link doesn't work then check out the second page of all my posts and there is one entitled "Eastern Fron medal question". Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot - answeres the question about the outside pretty good.

Do you know where I can find more information on the makers?

      Thanks!

USA_Kev, you can find some general info out about the makers on this site. If you go out to the main page select the "collectors tools" option then "LDO" . This will show you a listing of the PKZ (Prasidialkanzlei) numbers as well as the LDO numbers. You can reference your numbers to the PKZ's. This will tell you which firm manufactured your medal.

Great - thanks, I really really appreciate this information.

Is there an overview / estimate which maker made how many pieces?

I will update my first post with the makers then.

          => can't - 90 Minute rule, so posted here:

          No. 19 = E. Ferd Weidmann
          No. 60 = Katz & Deyhle
          No. 61 = Rudolf A. Karneth & Soehne
          No. 77 = Bayrisches Hauptmuenzamt

Obviously, the "00" is not there, so I need a better magnifying glass

Something rare or uncommen with those?!

Kev, as far as rarity and a maker's production quantities, I'll have to defer to some more knowledgeable members on this topic. I'm sure you'll receive more replies by this time tomorrow. Good luck with your research and enjoy your new purchases!

                Hi Kev!
I did a qiuick check on dealer sites, and came up with 27 different PKZ-marked medals. I'm sure that there are more makers, a guess would be somewhere around 40-45 firms on
the PKZ list that made the East medal with maker-marked rings. There are probably more firms that made them, but only marked the envelope.
                The ones I found are: 1,3,4,5,6,7,10,13,14,15,18,19,20,25,30,60,31,73,76 ,80,83,85,93,100,107,110,127
Maybe someone else can add to this list with more accurate figures.

                //Thomas

                    Hi there,
the medals you have posted are all good.
The 00 is probably be more likely a 88 - a Redo made piece which tend to have sloppy marks.

The 77 is more rare than your other marked medals which can be encountered quite often.

Anyways, its good to see that you appreciate those nice looking medals as well.

                    Cheers,
                    Philipp

Thanks for the input - that is very appreciated! I had a friend today looking at the medal - he thinks it's a MM 100, so Rudolf Wachtler & Lange can be added to the list

I also got some Ostfront - Stickpins, one is w/o MM and the other one is L/16 (Steinhauer & Luck).

I will post some grouping pictures soon and share these beauties with you!

                        Hi Kev,

I have got over 60 known markers of the Ostmedaille on my list - and over 30 different marked medals in my collection.

Would you mind to share the mark and the medal itself of the supposed 100/88?

                        Thank you in advance,

                        Philipp

                          Hi Philipp,

                          Thanks for your input!

I will prepare very better overall and close-up pictures after my vacation ... then we can discuss in more detail.

Thanks and talk to you then.

                              Hello Philipp!
If it's not too much trouble, would you mind adding the PKZ nr of the ones you know to have produced maker marked medals?
I don't know if there is one yet.
