    Eastern Front Medal (question)

Does anyone know if there was more than one version of the Eastern Front Medal. A friend of mine was telling me that there is a rare version with a silver outer edge. I told him I only know of one version. Can anyone clarify this myth? If there is more than one type, could you describe or post pics. Thanks.

The early (1942) versions were gunmetal blue plated, with a silver edge.

Later on, the medals were made of unplated zinc, with an overall grey appearance.

Actually, I prefer the grey ones. The silvered ones are a bit 'cheap' looking, IMHO.

Thanks for your expertise and insight Robin. Is either version rarer or more valuable than the other?

PS. I really enjoy your book about detecting the fakes.

        Hi, guys.
I saw four types of a covering of east medals.
1 type. Galvanic silvering with application of a layer of copper.

            3 type. A so-called covering "glanzverkzinkt".

Gruzd, I'm eager to see your medals, but doesn't look like we can view your pics. Can you re-post them?

Thank you, Nick. They have the ribbons. Ribbons I keep separate from the medals.

I can see the pics now. Great collection Gruzd! Out of the four types that you mentioned, do you feel that any one type is more rarer than the other? Also, do you think that one type is more valuable than the other? Thanks.

As a rule, the type of coverage on the price of medals were not affected. In Russia, the price varies from 40 up to 100 dollars. In my opinion the rarer medals with a preserved cover 4 types.

                          Best regards, Vladimir.
