broken medal bar mount-where to repair?

    Hello forum...

I picked this up while I was on vacation... and was wondering where I can get it professionally repaired?

Do I have all the correct medals for this bar? It appears that there are seven different ribbon... but... a total of five mounts (including a few broken)?

I don't recognize some of the medals... and paid $250 plus tax for the lot at an antique store. They all supposedly came from the same lot/person.

    Are these all German?

    Thanks for the help... Robert

                            Hello Robert,

It looks like what you have there is what was originally a five-place trapezoid clasp that was altered at a later date to accommodate a couple of subsequent awards. It looks like the original pin configuration was messed up too. As far as I see it, the order represented on the bar is:
                            A) 1914 Iron Cross Second Class
                            B) Hessen Bravery Medal
                            C) Prussian 12-Year Long Service Medal
                            D) Hamburg Hanseatic Cross
                            E) Hindenburg Cross with Swords
                            F) WWI Commemorative Medal for Hungary
                            G) 1936 Olympic Games Commemorative Medal

You have all the necessary medals to complete the bar except for the one in position (E): the Hindenburg Cross with Swords. In the picture below, I did a match the medal to the ribbon illustration. The ones marked with a black "X" are not part of the medal bar. The pale blue ribbon with the white stripes is a 25-Year Service Clasp for a Bavarian Firefighter. The yellow ribbon with the white stripes is for a Saxon Friedrich August Medal. The medal at the very bottom is a Hungarian Frontline Combat Cross of the 1941 type.

Based on the pictures posted, all of the medals look original with the possible exception of the 1936 Olympic Games Commemorative Medal. I would want to see better pictures of both the front and reverse of that one before deciding one way or the other.

Not a bad buy for $250, especially if the Olympic Medal is real. I would also want to see better pictures of the trapezoid clasp.

                            Best regards,
                            Tom
