This thread is valuable to me as this medal is on my next aquisition list and I'm doing my homework. I'm also digesting the thread linked above.
So, the consensus is that all original medals would have the designer's name on the rim?
Oh well.... I really appreciate the comments from everyone, even if they are not what I wanted to hear. This has been a learning experience for me as well. At least we are not talking about a big $$$$$ item that is bogus

Kenneth's pic's show as he said no or poor maker name, as a comparison as to what I had mentioned in his pic's also look and compare to previous threads on this medal, the fake is very smooth in its features and lettering, and the lettering, look at the letters on how some are not complete .
Sorry Brian, but everyone gets a bad one once in awhile , just be glad it was not a big investment badge, etc . Don't give up, go out and get yourself a nice real one . If you have sent this to Robert you may as well tell him to keep it and use it as a fishing weight .
And Johnnie good luck in your hunt for one of these beauties, as you know a wealth of info here on the forum lots of pics .

Have you tried the guy in Dudweiler yet? I'm sure he would have one. These are much more common in the area in which you live. Many German soldiers that fought in the DAK came out of the Rheinland-Pfalz. I know that you're from the Saarland but the Pfalz is right around the corner. If not I have some other contacts in Germany that could help.

Hi Ken,
I havn't had a chance to check him out yet as I have really been tied up but I plan too. Thanks for the lead,
I got Brian's African Service Medal in the mail today and made some photographs. It looks to be the same fake as Kenneth shows above. Here are some sunlit photos...
Thanks for posting the original and the fake side by side Robert. I am looking to add one of these to my collection and this was a great example of comparisons.
Thank you for the great pictures Robert, I appreciate it. Very nice side by sides to show the obvious casting/fake that I sent you. Very helpful to me and others.....been fishing with that new "lure" yet?
Thanks again!

It's on it's way back to homebase, Brian. Besides, salmon don't like Polish replicas, just fresh roe and frozen cut herring.
