Can anyone tell me what this rendering of the War Merit Cross With Swords is for? I have serached and can not find anything resembling it. Is it some sort of display or saleman's sample? Is it even real?

Any opinions are welcome and greatly appreciated.

to me looks like a bad mould with excess that would have to be cut away. i have looked at my ones and can see no evidence that the mould would be this bad which with the colour of the one shown could it be a possible modern attempt at faking ?? i did see some pics of kvk moulds once and will try see if i can find them on the net again

do you have any input as where it came from ?? i have seen fakes that show a lighter bronze colour in areas hence my quote about colour etc. still looking for that net sight no luck yet

Chris: The "medallion" came from a gun/militaria show in Northern California seven years ago. I hve no other information as to its provanance or 'legacy'. I just thought it looked unusual The vendor had no information other than he purchased it from a veteran in the local area. You know how that line that goes.

This looks like a test strike and i lean towards original. The details look very nice and its obviously not mold.
