Hi James .. here's a photo, again artificial light but hopefully it shows a bit more of the wear and damage.

      Hey Ian,

I didn't want you to think I had forgotten about you. Just busy with two daughters now.

That said, looks like great bars and a superb haul.

I had wanted you to run them by Pierce when it came to the KvK devices and so forth. He is so knowledgeable.

      Best,

      J-

The top one is interesting in something other than an EK in the 1 spot. Also on the service ribbon, is that just wear, or was some device there? From the photo there doesn't appear to be any damage where the device would have been.

          Best,

          James

It's the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle ... looks to be the same ribbon as their General Decoration Silver Medal but that would appear further down the order.

Here are 2 more bars I recently bought on Ebay (made a cheeky offer for the 2nd one that had been listed there for ages and to my surprise it was accepted) As I understand it the Red Eagle is straight after the EKII (1914) on the 1st of them although I guess it could also be the General Decoration ? and the General Decoration in Silver appears after the Luebeck Hanseatic Cross on the other.

re the mark on the Long Service ribbon ... it's just a scuff, as I said the artificial light doesn't really show the true condition. If it ever stops bloody raining here I'll take some shots outside.

On the second bar down I like the fact the guy has all 5 of the Commemorative awards ... in fact without those and the Party Service awards both the top 2 bars would be very short

It also means I now have all 3 of the Hanseatic Crosses on ribbon bars as well

Yep; even after they ditched the wearing of the vanity ribbons, one could still stack commemorative medals & "pad" the bars a bit.

I think I have 2 of the 3, I'll have to check & see. (We might have to make a thread on those. )

                Best,

My latest purchase at auction today …

It has a lid to shut out the light and each drawer is the size of the 415mm x 315mm Riker mounts.

                    Nice, Ian! A great piece.

Of course, one purchase begets another, eh? Now you need to fill it.
