by comparison, in the late '70s at a show I bought 2 walked-in dead minters -- I mean just amazingly clean and also unissued -- for $15 apiece. I felt very smug turning them around for $65 each...

I always find it interesting to think of the cost of these things and how that has changed over the years.
Apparently in the UK the average full time male wage in 1969 was £30 per week, or £1560 per annum, ... equating to £24,000 today. The average house sold for £4,312 ( equal to £71,333 in today's money ) So probably they still cost "an arm and a leg " back then comparatively.
I remember as a kid in about 1984 seeing a German paratrooper helmet priced at £210 in an antiques shop ( in Clitheroe!) which I remember at the time being appalled at - particularly as I didn't understand why it could be so expensive as it wasn't even a "proper" German helmet but that would still have been a fortune then ...Last edited by eubank; 09-22-2019, 04:25 PM.
