FJ helmets with unusual chinstrap holders

Gents, I start this thread about my latest purshase . Willi said that we should discuss the one of the bolts on this helmet . Most of you already seen it . I would't provide link to the initial thread in helmet section and post some pix of the helmet again here . Bolts very often missed and changed to something which can help hold the straps inside . Sometimes soldiers used very interesting modifications ..Perhaps we can start whole thread about similar helmets . Lets the mine will be first .

Not factory FJ helmet bolt on the right side . It's also painted over by green camo .

Liner has some damages because of the guy who probably wanted large top pad and took it from the helmet .. I have some rubber parts from another helmets and installed it inside through the hole in the leather . Can do more even replace small rubber which is partially missed but think not do this ..

Now the bolt thread inside . Looks like soldier was lucky to find the bolt in right dimensions which fit well in the helmet .

Nice idea! Here is one in my collection that I don't think is a field replacement, but rather a factory-issued mistake (or at least, a half-finished bolt). It is a mystery how this would go undiscovered since the spanner bolt wrench would not be usable with this half-finished bolt. But the helmet is untouched and the rust prevents that bolt from being removed.

The steel nut is rusted in place on the half-finished bolt.

Interesting variation, Walter . I have similar bolt without holes and not painted . Need to check my spare parts, always thought it's some kind of replica, but your one looks authentic .

Have checked my helmets and found this bolt, I don't know where it came from ( I installed it in helmet by myself) but looks like it also has some remains of paint and in my opinion it's correct and similar to Walter's one ..

The next helmet was ground recovered in Koenigsberg area, very late model and has all original parts and period bolts . Mixed bolts and ....

Very interesting Sergey! Intriguing variations. My bolt and nut are made of steel and the nut is heavily oxidized and can't be removed. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, Walter it's very interesting configuration and I do believe that your bolt is authentic..never heard that fakers installed similar ones without holes for any tool or spanner...they always try do the same like textbook originals ..So I believe these bolts are defects or bars from the factory ..
It seems like nobody has any other helmets with unusual bolts /holders , only Walter and me ))) So, it makes them very rare
I'll show one more . Ground recovered from battlefield on Ukraine. No bolt in hole but telephone wire used to hold the strap . This camo helmet also interesting because it has hooks from the cover still attached /

What a terrific example Sergey, wow! I really like the improvised method of securing the chinstrap (not to mention the camo and the camo cover clips). Very interesting example on many different levels!!
