Oswald "disappears from the radar" in early September, and is almost certainly captured by Canadians in Pozzo Alto the night between August 31st and September 1st, 1944.

The Fallscmirjager Regiment 4, on September 30, the day of the great attack on the Gothic Line, is practically the German front line in the central Sector against
the assault of a large part of the Canadian Army Corps.
In particular, the Fallschmirjager Regiment 4 is on the road from Chiesa Nuova to Pozzo Alto (just below the Canadian monument at an altitude of 204 (yellow circle in the german map below).
On August 31 with Canadians at point 204 is dangerously behind the enemy. Lieutenant Eckel, who is able to stop the Canadians on the road with his anti-tank and its men and the Germans organize, the night between the 31st and the first with the surviving companies the Fallschmirjager Regiment 4, the pioneers and the 14 anti-tank company of our Oswald, a counterattack around quote 204 and 203 ((red circle in the german map below, and here Oswald is probably is caught).that give way to 1st and 3rd Regiment of the same division to withdraw to Cattolica. The operation will succeed and the 1st and 3rd Regiments will be saved (nd will give a lot of trouble to the Allies the next days and in particular to San Martino Montellabate near Rimini where they will stop the Canadians for 3 days) but the 4th Regiment will lose about 70% of the eggjacks among the dead, wounded and prisoners.
Just a photo from the course rack of Valentino Rossi of quote 204/203 (around the Canadian monuments)

Great thread. I really enjoyed the Canadian context. I live a 5 minute walk from the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment's Armoury and Museum. Thanks again for some excellent research.-Frank

I put behind many photos of Riccione, the airport of Rimini that is here in front, and the church ..... I add two photos of the cemetery of Coriano which is about 2 km from the front held by the paratroopers of 1FJR; it is the largest of the allied war cemeteries around Rimini with 1939 fallen (in total they are buried in the 4 allied cemeteries of the area, Coriano, Montecchio, Gradara, and Rimini about 4500 allied soldiers, as well as 114 Greek soldiers in Riccione)

and thanks to the l precious help of my friend Pietro I received the confirmations of these theses ....

Oswald's prison documents confirm his capture on August 31st, and the 14th Antitank Company was just around Pozzo Alto ... the 31st it's a great day of crisis o the German paratroopers of the 1FJD, they have two corps in front of them, a Polish one on the coast and a Canadian one towards the interior, on 31 August they will have numerous losses, including 231 prisoners (including our Oswald) but will manage to get out of the situation on their feet and take up again in Riccione where they will stop (with the other Germans Division arrived a few days later) the thrust of the breakthrough of the Gothic ... the POW documents.... the same number of the soldbuch... POw in Arizona then in Idaho until June 1946
