    Camo Parachute on Ebay!

    Hello everyone,
I had a few questions about this parachute:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
Should it state on the label that its a camo chute instead of a regular chute?
Also one that is packed with the booklet is more desirable then an unpacked one?

    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hello Michael,
    First off i'm RKS_01 on e-bay
This rig is a regular RZ20 in nice clean condition ,there were many different labels used on them, some were overly stamped while others had next to nothing this one is the latter, i have not seen the stamping on the canopy but i guess it will just have "Kappe mit Fangelinen" Gerat no. and werk no. some of the earlier ones had BA stamps Bal stamps makers marks, all sorts really.IT does not make a diiference to the price though, and a matching no.rig is nice if it has the Inspection booklet but not the end of the world if its missing in fact i have payed more for a rig without a book than one with one it just depends on conditon the rig is in, this one up for grabs nearly didn't come with its deployment bag and static line, it had been put in with the pilot chute he was also selling i spotted the mistake and informed the seller,so someone owes me a beer if i get beaten .
Tim, i hope that answers a few questions for you aswell.
if i can help with any other question, then plesae don't hesitate to ask,Ohh...as long as its not asking what my high bid is
    Cheers
    Bob.

      Hey Bob,
Dont take this the wrong way, but dont you think a packed untouched parachute with the booklet in the bag and also in the shipping tin container would be more desirable then one with the same pieces/parts that was put together?

I guess this is what sets a few collections apart then the rest. I was planning on bidding Bob, but I will wait for one that I like even more. So you dont have to worry about any snipe bids from me

      Thanks,
      Michael

Hi Bob, it has cleared things up for me, and well done in spotting the mix up with the line and bag. Cheers Tim.

          Hi Michael,

I see what your getting at,difficult to find one like that with the tin(on E-bay), especially with the U.S.Vets details written on top e.g. 100% been together and never messed with since the end of WW2,but who's to say the tin was not added at a later date?,they are fairly easy to obtain in good to excellent condition, and not everything thats listed on E-bay comes from an Estate sale,it's a difficult call. I have bought mint rigs in the U.S. but never has one come with the tin.Frankly its down to your individual taste. It's what YOU want at the end of the day and will be happy with.Personally i'd find a nice rig buy it then add any missing pieces to it e.g the carrying bag/tin etc, to complete a set,Remember the Vet who "Liberated" it took it as a souvenier,he didn't use it to jump with, now if these rigs were named to a jager then i think we would be talking really big money, but they weren't,so just see it for what it is,a nice original piece of WW2 Fallschirmjager kit .
I hope this is of some help to you,oh,i think Willi sees a few rigs at the shows he goes too, maybe he can help you with your quest.
          All the very Best
          Bob

              Hy Bob.

Did you purchase this chute from Bill Shea? I recall seeing it before and pictured much the same way. I beleive he had two of them for sale a couple of months ago.

                Hello Dasboot,
no i haven't bought from Bill Shea,i've seen the chute he's listing its complete with lines and risers and in excellent condition but thats it ,no harness or other parts except the carrying bag,IMHO overpriced for just a chute by along stretch .
                cheers
                Bob
                Hi Michael,
something i wrote on the post obviously does'nt make sense to you.."yea maybe" ,can you enlarge on this.
                Cheers
                Bob

                  Hi Folks!
Lets just try and clear this one up ,(1) I personally would not throw more money at a complete rig just for the benefit that it comes already packed, (2) i buy them because thats what i collect i couldn't careless wether its packed or unpacked as long as its not falling apart!,and if i have a couple of items missing e.g. static line hook, then i look for one, gives you great satisfaction when you find the missing piece. (3) As long as all items are in good condition and original pre May 45 manufacture does it really matter?I am also a re-enactor and some of you have seen the photos that have been posted on the forum and you know we do a packing display, these chutes are packed in the correct German fashion, whats to stop me from getting someone to list one of these packed chutes with Tin on E-bay saying untouched since WW2? we have discussed prices on previous threads take time out to look at these.
                  cheers
                  Bob

Will have to throw in my opinion of this, based on my collecting experience. An era-packed chute with a matching booklet..and all the components matching...is more collectable and valuable than an unpacked or repacked chute. That is just the way it works.

Willi has given he's valued opinion and i've given mine, frankly i don't see how you can tell wether its Era packed or not,if the Red cotton is still attached to the securing pin, that will have to be cut to get at the chute and deployment bag so as to relieve you of your curiosity,if you don't want to touch it then you will just have to take the sellers word as gospel.About 85% of Fallschirmjager chutes i've seen are matching no.s and with the matching inspection booklet, as Willi said it is a desirable item, but that for me is it, to throw x amount of pounds/dollars extra at a rig is a complete waste of hard earned money, here in the U.K most dealers will tell you anything to make a buck!

Willi, i am only just finding my feet when it comes to shutes, can you or any other advanced FJ collectors tell me what pointers to look for to tell if a chute is era packed or what to look for in a shute that has been packed post war? Thanks Tim.

                          Hey Bob,
There are other sources where you can get an untouched parachute so lets not assume that all chutes are only sold be dealers/and not trust worthy people, one thing many of these chutes came over here during/after the war, you see them sometimes with the address written right on them, which just adds a bit of history to the piece in my opinion especially if you live in the same area to where the chute was originally shipped to .

Hi all, can any one tell me the difference between a era packed shute and a post war packed shute? Well this shute went for $2025 how does the price sound, good or bad? I know from UK dealer prices it is good but how does stack up on ebay prices? Bob could you step inand give your thoughts?

                              Hey Tim,
As for the price on the parachute, its a bit much in my opinion one like that unpacked assuming that its complete I would say $1300-$1500 for it, no more.
