Please show the inside of the eagle's stitching.

The left side is gabardine. Interesting jacket.

I (obviously) completely forgot all about that jacket; probably intentionally because of the source! I've never seen a smooth splinter FD jacket "in the real," only these on line. Seeing one personally would "cement" it in my memory. I hope....

Regarding your second link, I cannot view the photos. This is happening often and I am not sure of the problem; perhaps the fact that I use a Mac.

As to our discussion; please tell me how many smooth splinter smocks you know of compared to smooth splinter FD jackets.

Glad your memory is returning . WRT how many.....my friend currently owns 2 smooth FD jackets. He sold another one last year. There was a nice one sold at Beltring in the Summer, and another friend once bought a beautiful one only to to told by an "expert" that it was made from a splinter B zeltbahn He sold it cheap before he realised his mistake. I quess it comes down to where you live. Perhaps most of the smooth ones were captured in the British sector, hence the reason they are more commonly found over here. Just a thought.
I will ask my friend for some good photos of one of his( including the markings ). BTW they all had blue wool eagles ( those with the original eagles, that is ).
I still think the one you showed is from one of these.

Good points Steve. But the ratio produced is really unknown. As for surviving examples, I've seen probably eight "smooth" splinter jump smocks and at least two of them had blue-grey wool backed eagles. IMO there really is no way to know for sure which this eagle is from. You should acquire one of those smooth jackets if you ever have the chance!

I don't see any signs of camouflage on the material, other than the little piece on the back, which may be camo? Here are some closeups.

Very nice Fred! I love this eagle! The small bit on the back is not camo, but an unusual meliert. I have a sleeve rank backed with this and it is why I asked for a detail.
