    Last group from 2018

The year is ending and this is my last acquisition for this year.

Here we have Feldwebel Fritz Haag. He was born on December 27th, 1914 and was a soldier before the outbreak of the war as shown in his Soldbuch, open on the first day of the war with the rank of Gefrieter.

His Soldbuch was open as number 34 by 2./Inf.Er.Btl. 61 with dog tag number 35.

In the first page is a notation I found on several Soldbuch from soldiers who were not fit for frontline service but not discharged and shows his last unit via Feldpost numer 06483E for 14./Jëgr Regiment 204, the date of his Soldbuch and the date of his wound September 29th, 1.942 (I think a mistake as he ws wounded on August) plus a remark as Service in Staff positions.

We can trace his promotions as follows

Gefreiter August 21st, 1.939 as change in his pay roll on Page 18 by Inf. Ers. Btl. 61
    Obergefreiter on February 1st, 1.940 by 12./I.R. 61 confirmed on February 22nd.
Oberjäger on February 1st, 1.942 by 15./I.R. 204 confirmed the same day
    Feldwebel on June 1st, 1.943 by 1./ Get. E. 100 confirmed on August 1st

He served with I.R. 61 during the French campaign till its III Battalion was used to for III./I.R. 204 of the new Leichte Infanterie Division 97 on November 1.940.

He served in both 14 and 15 Kompanies from this Regiment during his service including its change name to Jäger Regiment 204 when the division was renamed 97 Jäger Division on July 6th, 1.942.

Looks like his French campaign and earliest stages of the Russian one produce no awards to our soldier, but this changed in 1.942.

The medals he earned prior the outbreak of the was were both Flowers War, the anwxion of Austria and the Czech one, unfortunately no citation or date on Soldbuch just stamped by 15./I.R. 204 (so not noted before November 1.940)

Now he started to earn combat and valor awards in a short but intense run,

On April 21st, 1.942 he was awarded the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver, stamped in his Soldbuch by 15./I.R. 204.
His citation was stamped with a seal with the Fp 01556 from Regimentstab I.R. 204.
Signed by Major Ernst Nobis (later Oberst) who won the RK on January 21st, 1.942 as Hauptmann und Kdr. II./I.R. 204 and the EL (151) on December 5th, 1.942 as Oberstleutnant und Kdr. Jäger Regiment 204

On April 29th, 1.942 for a wound received on February 16th he received the Wound Badge in Black, stamped in his Soldbuch by 14./I.R. 204.
His citation was stamped with Fp 06483 from III./I.R. 204.
Signed by Hauptmann Friedrich Höhne (later Major) who won the RK on May 3d, 1.942 as Hauptmann und Kdr. III./JÄger Rgt. 204, the EL (153)in the same position but as a Major and the DKiG as Major on February 1st, 1.945 with Jäger Regiment 207 (sister Regiment on the 97 Jäger Division)

On July 4th, 1.942 he received the Iron Cross 2nd class, stamped in his Soldbuch by 14./I.R. 204
His citation was stamped by 97 Le. Division.
Signed by Generalmajor Ernst Rupp, winner of the RK on March 7th, 1.943 as Generalleutnant und Kdr. 97 Jäger Division also DKiG as Oberst in I.R. 36 on January 11th, 1.942.

On September 3rd, 1.942 he received the Ostmedaill stamped in his Soldbuch by 14./I.R. 204. Unfortunately his citation was lost.

On September 10th, 1.942 as result of being wounded three times he received the Wound Badge in Silver, stamped in his Soldbuch by 14./I.R. 204
Signed by an, for me, unknown Hauptmann

Finally on September 28th, 1.942 he received the Iron Cross 1st class, stamped in his Soldbuch by 2 Gen.San.Kp. 97
Signed also by Generlmajor Ernst Rupp and stamped 97 Jäger Division.
General Ernst Wupp was KIA on May 30th, 1.943 at Krymsk, Kuban.

Later I will add more info I obtained from the Soldbuch and some history from the Division.

          Very nice group!!

Is that blood on the EK2 award document?

I don't think is blood on the EK II citation.

Major Friedrich Hohne won the EL as 253 on June 8th, 1.943 not as 153, a mistake you made when in a hurry.

Also our soldier clearly ended his front service after his third wound as I can not find any clue of him going back to a combat unit, maybe at the end in an ad hoc Kampfgruppe or unit.

His three security checks on July 23rd, December 21st, 1.943 and September 1st, 1.944 were done by Gens.Kp. GJ. Ers. Btl. 100

            He was wounded three times:

On February 16th, 1.942, stay with his unit
On June 23rd, 1.942, also stay with his unit
On August 29th, 1.942, he was in a tour for several hospitals till July 7th, 1.943

Only we know it was a sharpel wound, code 31b.

He also stay in the hospital in Döberitz (Reservelazarett 102, Krankenabteilung III) from October 3rd till October 29th, 1.943, code 24 (Non sexually transmitted Genital Problems) something no man want to hear from his doctor.

He spent all his combat time with HG Süd in Winniza, Uman, Kiew, Artemonsk, Donetz River, Isjum, Rostow, Armavir and Maikop where he was wounded and put an end to his combat part in the war.

In the Soldbuch I found in the two leaves on September 21st and November 29th, 1.940 the signature from Hauptmann Ewald Mertens, RK on February 22nd, 1.942 with 15./I.R. 204.

The photo in the Soldbuch shows the cyphers being worn in his shoulder straps and in the portrait we can see also his lovely wife Maria.

Not bad for closing the collection year.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

                    Hello Angel !

Really a great and very interesting group. Congrats !
Thanks for sharing with us so many examples of your beautiful collection .

I could only take a quick look and I found two topics very interesting:

                    1.) On p. 2, the SB was opened by E.[rsatz] I.[nfanterie] R.[egiment] 61, which was then changed to :
                    I.[nfanterie] E.[rsatz] B.[ataillon] 61
This is exactly how the very first replacement units were formed. Every existing Inf.Rgt. etc., left
some personnel behind, to form those first replacement units. Never saw this change in designation before.
                    Fascinating !

2.) Perhaps even more interesting :
I have done some (limited) research on 97. Jg.Div., because I own a nice photo album of a Sani from that Div.
At the time of his final wounding in Aug. 1942, the Division fought in an area SW of Neftegorsk.
Here is the link to some photos and a map :

If I find more interesting infos in the Album, I will post them here.

                    Best regards,

                    Archi
