    Horchkompanie tropical Soldbuch

    Hello friends,
    i'm wondering what were the work of the Horchkompanien in the african theatre. I heard to say that this little but very important unit was always in close contact with Rommel to pass him the informations about the movements of the enemy.
    I consider also very important the date of consignment to the soldier (21/1/1941) that, as far as i know, belong to the very first batch of troops sent in Africa. Its precocity is also indicated by the pages of the clothes and equipments delivered (6, 7) which they are the same of the continental Soldbuch, while the tropical stuff was elencated on the special consignment page (8). I think that the pages with elencated the tropical items were still to come...
    Please let me know your thoughts.

      I think you have a Soldbuch connected to a very specialized unit in signal intelligence.
      Thanks for showing !

      IMO there were only very few of those independent Horch-Kp., in April 1942 redesignated
      into Nachrichten-Fernaufklärungskompanien [Tessin, Vol.1, p.253].
      (3./56 became NFAK 621 (see scan), FPN was always : 21773).

      I have asked some questions regarding the various types of these small and specialised signal units,
      but either there are no infos available or perhaps there is no interest in general on these non combat units.

      I maybe wrong, but I think Horch-Kp. 3./56 was the only one of this type in Africa (at least of the Heer).
      And I think, this unit was in deed very important to Rommels decisions.

      The Kp.Chef was Hptm. Alfred Seebohm. If you search his name, you'll find some interesting links, e.g.:

      Regarding this soldier/Soldbuch and his arrival in Africa :
      I do not fully understand your arguments. In principal, there should be some writing in the back of Soldbuch :
      "Hat am XX.XX.1941 afrikanischen Boden betreten", or : "In Afrika since ..."
      If not, it might help to show more pages of the SB, e.g. leave or hospital entries etc. ...
      (might be interesting anyway !)

        Hi Archi, thanks a lot for your answer very informative. Do you say me that this Soldbuch doesn't have the features of the tropical ones? Maybe i misunderstood your last statement?

          Sorry for causing some confusion. I wanted to say 2 different things :
          a) I do not know the term :" tropical Soldbuch", so it would be nice, if you could give some examples,
          what is the difference to a standard SB ?

          b) The other topic referred to the question, when this soldier arrived in Africa, as this is always interesting.
          For this, I thought you could look for entries like : "In Afrika seit ..." or other entries, that could help
          to clarify this topic.

            This unit was a very important and effective asset of the Afrikakorps, tasked with listening to and interpreting Allied radio traffic to provide Rommel with intelligence. This unit was so effective that they were specifically targeted at Tel el Eisa on July 10, 1942 where most of this unit was captured.
