I'm surprised neither received the African medal or cuffband considering the time in country. Was that a divisional problem?

He was taken POW around January 1.942 so no time for more medals.

Looking for DKiG Heer winner Soldbuch who also won the TDB and/or CCC, specially in Silver.

        Hello Angel and all!

An interesting Soldbuch and also a document of a very interesting episode of the war in the desert !

The battalion commander of his battalion, I./Schtz.Rgt. 104, was Major Bach, a pastor in civilian life.
This battalion was obviously part of the defenders of Halfaya pass already during Operation Battleaxe (June 1941),
which was nicknamed "Hellfire pass" afterwards.

During Operation Crusader in November, his btl. was cut off and continued to defend the pass for almost two months,
until the garrison had finally to surrender on 17. Jan. 1942 (mainly because of a lack of water and food).

The first link has a nice photo of Maj. Bach (after the Wundzettel) and pictures of the terrain, the second one a
short summary of the actions and the third link (takes a long time to load) describes the surrender of the garrison.
There is also a short chapter in: Carell, "Die Wüstenfüchse", which describes the actions between
November and January, based on eyewitness reports, which might be interesting.

Angel pointed out to me that the owner of the Soldbuch he posted here and the owner of the Soldbuch I posted a while back served in the exact same unit, right down to the same company:

It's very likely they knew each other.
