    My first Afrikakorps Soldbuch

I ahave been lucky enough to purchase a couple of new pieces for my collection and now I want to show you the first one, a little group to an NCO fighting in France and Africa with Infantry/Schützen Regiment 104.

He first served in the HJ and later enlisted in the Wehrmacht prior the war and served with 14.(Pz.Abw.) Kompanie, Infanterie Regiment 104.

Close up for the HJ and WH photo where you can see the HJ unit and the shoulder boards with the "104" number, the WH photo was removed from an official document and you can see the stamps used.

As all Africa Heer Soldbuch no photo attached, but a list of equipment given to him.

All his promotions from Schütze to Unteroffizier and his POW number 38896, plus an allied stamp at the bottom right.

Our friend Ernst Konrad served prewar and his Soldbuch was opened on August 26th, 1.939.

We can see his two first promotions were validated by 14./Inf.Rgt. 104 and the last two by 5./S.R. 104.

He served with 14./Inf.Rgt. 104 till November 11th when the unit was transferred from 33 I.D. to 15 Pz.Div. and relocated to the 5. Kompanie where he served till the end and see the transfer of the whole unit to the 21 Pz.Div. on August 1.941.

At the beginning he fought with a Kar98k (I think at Tobruk) but he changed it for a more appropriate MP 40 for the final battles at Halfaya Pass.

During his career he was awarded the next medals:

EK II on November 18th, 1.940
Westwall on December 14th, 1.940 (notated on June 26th, 1.941)
Panzerkampfabzeichen in bronze on November 1st, 1.941

Not bad for a short career.

As we know he was taken POW and sent to Canada where he took some pictures to send home.

First in tropical uniform, he is the one seated third from right sporting his PABiB and EK II ribbon.

Second in normal ones, but no awards this time despite several other sports theirs and, as in the previous, all have breast eagles.

The KM soldier was in the U-Boot service and wears the U-Boot abzeichen.
