Kurt Hässler born on 12.02.1902 from Chemnitz (Saxony)

    14.3.1941 - Soldbuch opened with 2./INF ERS BTL 394
    1.7.1942 - Promoted to Gefreiter with 1./Lds.Schtz.Btl.383

    1.12.1943 - Security Check from 3./Pi.Btl.319
.1.1944 - Transferred to 1./Pi.Btl.353 based in Morlaix. 353.Infanterie Division covers the are between Brest and Morlaix in Bretagne
27.1.1944 - Leave from fp nr 37367 (Marine-Flak-Abteilung 805) Based in Brest near to 353.Infanterie Division
.5.1944 - The German Pi Units moved a lot in the Spring of 1944. On the 6 June 1944 the Battle positions of the Pi Bat 353 in Giuclan, in the north of St Thegonnec. the First company Pi Batl 353 set the mine field on the coast of the KVG Morlaix. The Plan, Elorn 1/214 was completed on the 20 May 1944 by the first company. Some Pionier of the first company died during the mine laying as some of the fuzes were easily broken. The 1 Company seems that it was not refreshed by the Pi Batl 266 on the Cote d'Amor, but only through the KVUG Roscoff.

15.6.1944 - After over 1 week from the D-DAY Invasion Part of the 353.Infanterie Division was ordered to Normandy, but the unit took more than a week to get there because of Allied air attacks, arriving June 18. Near St. Lo, they helped support the badly mauled 77th Infantry division in hedgerow fighting against elements of the U.S. 82nd Airborne, 90th, 8th, 79th, and 9th Infantry divisions.
    03.7.1944 - 1./Pi.Btl.353 with 2./Pi.Btl.353 defends the Town of La-Haye-du-Puits until the 10.7.1944
The unit was forced south during Operation Cobra and was caught in the Falais Pocket in Aug. 1944.

The unit managed to escape somewhat intact and rebuilt its forces by absorbing the XX Luftwaffe Fortress Battalion, the Garten Battalion, 313th Ersatz und Ausbildungs Regiment, the 547th Security Battalion, and the the 2/12th Landschutzen Ausbildungs (national guard training) Regiment. Most of these men were very young, or older men in their 40s and 50s who were not fit for front line units.
On September 16, the German 12 Infanterie-Division arrived, it was assigned to make a counter-attack against Aachen. Parts of the 353. Infanterie-Division occupied the Siegfried Line in the Huertgen Forest south of Aachen in October 1944.

19.10.1944- Kurt Hässler got Killed in Action and he will be Buried in the German military Cemetery in Lommel, Belgium.

With The soldbuch there are a few photos of Kurt on holidays, one showing him obviously at home with his wife just 3 months after starting service in 1941, another one showing him on a Boat somewhere in the Area of Brest probably while working with the Marine-Flak-Abteilung 805 Based in Brest Probably in spring 1944 (Notice the MFA805 Feldpost Number at the Back).
There is also an Envelope coming from the Allied forces who sent the soldbuch and the photos to Kurt s Wife meaning that US Troops obviously somehow got hold of Kurt s body and kept the Soldbuch probably for the Intellingence and then released it to the Family in 1947.
