The first Wehrpaß could have been lost in Stalingrad, like most others from the 6th Army.

Hm..so, the main question for me now - was he awarded by EKI?

Without further proof/documentation: Not officially, it appears.

Note - it's STILL a nice little grouping, no matter what.

          50/50

It is a long shot but here is what you need to research:

1.) leipzig Wehrmeldeamt (leipzig military recruiting office) 1940’s (1942-1945)

2.) The name “SYMANN”, via a fast internet search that last name “SYMANN” is common to the current city and district.

3.) Looking for “SYMANN” signature in new recruits Wehrpasses from leipzig Wehrmeldeamt 1942 -1945 (This maybe the easiest/fastest way to look by having others help you.)

My gut feeling at first was no, but “SYMANN” did put “SYM.” abbreviated name/initials at the end of the line, which is proper for adding handwritten information to a closed out or dated document in office environment. In addition, “SYMANN” wrote his name on top of the leipzig Wehrmeldeamt stamp. However, the award writing looks comical or overemphasized.

So right now for me it is 50/50 (more No than YES), if you can find an officer an or administrator by the name of “SYMANN” in one of his later units , I would concluded 99.97% it was correct.

Using’s “Occam’s razor” you will find yourself being right a lot more times than being wrong!

Like I said, the EK I was written in after the Wehrpass was closed out by the Wehrmeldeamt. Therefore it is not legit.

              Legit, no! Correct?

lol, In a perfect world that’s how things work. (By the rules) Rules are circumvented all the time, by people at the top of the ladder and ones at the bottom.

This book already has errors in it and in reality the way clerk tried to correct it made it more confusing. If he had just crossed out the two line and wrote them again (standard procedure) or if he had drawn two reverse arrows in the unit section it would have made it clear.

I had a former boss that was a clerk for one of the Corps in the Korea war, and he repeatly told me that it was not about going by the book, it was about getting the “S*it” (paperwork) done ASAP.

Legit, no it is not officially correct. However, only suggested looking for a “SYMANN.”

Therefore, what is he finds an officer/admin by the name of “SYMANN” in one of this man’s former units and fall into the right time period, where would we go from there?

The handwriting is typical of an old mans writing.....it also looks like it is in biro.....he probably thought he deserved it......he might have won it but the fact remains it is not a genuine entry from the time.....you will be amazed how many vets alter their documents postwar....to correct errors or add entries!!!

The signature also looks like "Signum" to me.....
