Grenadier-Regiment Soldbuch, document and photo grouping. Wounded five times!

    Hello everybody,

Recently I came into possession of a very interesting document and photograph grouping of an Obergefreiter who served with a Grenadier-Regiment. He was wounded five times in less than two years, and even twice in four days. The Regiment he served with surrendered to Soviet forces on the 8th of May 1945 in the Courland Pocket. It appears that the soldier ended up being captured by the Western Allies, most likely because he was hospitalized in Western Germany after he was wounded for the fifth time. He was discharged in October 1946, according to his Entlassungschein.

Would anybody be able to tell me with which kind of weapons an Infanterie-Panzer-Jäger-Kompanie was equipped? Could it be anti-tank guns like the Panzerabwehrkanone 43?

I hope you like the grouping, and that all of the award documents are original!

    Portrait photograph of the soldier.

First award document for the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz. It is signed by Oberst and Ritterkreuzträger Henning Daubert.

Award document for the Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber. It is also signed by Oberst Daubert.

Second award document for the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz.

Letter to his father regarding the Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber, which was awarded to his son.

Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber award document. This one is also signed by Oberst Daubert.

Award document for the Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold, it has a "Papierfabrik" watermark.

Cover of the soldbuch and first page.

Soldbuch entries regarding his wound etc.

Soldbuch page with all of his awards.

    New Year 1944 in Leningrad.

Ostfront is not my center of interest but your group is nice. Congratulations.
Of particular interest, in my opinion, is the curious mention of wounded badge in gold, at the end of the SB, written like a "fake" or post war addition. But of course authentic, as the Urkunde shows.
About weapons of 14. Pz Jg. Komp., the "normal" gun was the Pak 40 but many infantery divisions used the russian 7,62 mm, some others had even Pak 38 in 1944.

I would be completely suspicious of those last two entries......definately look added to me....even with the award citation, I have seen this done before!!

They look like fake entries that I have seen in the past! Even down to the stamp.

Thank you very much for answering my question! The entry in the Soldbuch of the Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold and Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse also made me doubt, but thought it would be alright as it also included the award document. There is however no award document for the Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse.

In a way I was already afraid for this to be said as I also had doubts. So are only those two entries fake or would also the award document for the Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold be fake? I thought that if he was wounded twice in February 1945 these wounds and hospitalizations would be mentioned in the Soldbuch. If needed I'd be happy to post close-ups.

The citation for the Gold Wound Badge does look ok......the reason it was made in the Soldbuch was no doubt to enhance the EKII entry!

The FP Nr. on the citation belongs to:

            55255
            (?) Luftwaffen-Lazarett St. Omer,
            2.12.1943 Luftwaffen-Lazarett 11/XI

            Lw.-Lazarett (o) 11/XI
St.-Omer/NE France as Lw.-Lazarett St. Omer then moved to Bad Meinberg/26 km NE of Paderborn in August-September 1944. 500 beds

Are there are any entries from 1945 in the Soldbuch?

Thank you very much for your help! I have checked the pages of the Soldbuch and found three entries for 1945. There was one entry from April 1945 on the clothing and equipment page, one entry for Rasierseife from February 1945 and one entry for Wehrsold being handed out for the month of March 1945, paid out by Feldpostnummer 58122.

              I do not have my scanner nearby at the moment so I have made photographs with my camera;

Not much to go on there.....

                FP Nr. 58122 belonged to:

                (12.3.1943-7.9.1943) 1. Sanitäts-Kompanie 4.

                1. Sanitäts-Kompanie 4 was part of 14 Panzer Division which fought in Courland around that time....to that pretty much confirms his wounds!

Hmm, but then I'm wondering why there is no entry regarding his wounds on page 12 and 13. And, why would a unit based in Courland hand out Wehrsold to him as he was in West Germany in hospital around that time? However, still a shame that the two award entries in the Soldbuch are fake.

The pay entries are for March...then transferred home? Difficult to say but I have not problem with anything other than the two awards as mentioned.

There are many examples of no complete entries in Sb, for wound(s) or others things. And one month has spent between the Wehrsold given in Courland by San. Kp. 4 and the hospital in Bad Meinberg. So, no impossibility. But it is true than the last awards entries look very strange !

The gold WB doc is fine IMO, given that soldiers were often given an EKII for a single serious wound he certainly earned an EKII for 5!

personally i don't have an issue with those two entries because as a whole they don't really add anything value wise to the group

the kompanie could have been equipped with pak 38, pak 40, pak 97\38 or other captured guns, also panzerschrecks
