Interesting estimations on value, and IMHO nobody is right or wrong. Just goes to show how collectors will value an item differently... and how subjective "value" can be on items like Soldbücher.

I would put this one in the $250 - $300 range. Obviously some are willing to pay (much) more, others - less. It all boils down to what you feel it's worth and what you feel comfortable paying.

I appreciate all the feedback and certainly agree with Rob on value being subjective. I think that paperwork is particularly hard to value as all of it is unique. How much does a missing page detract from a book, or a lack of awards, how much is added by a rare equipment issue, a particularly appealing photo or a desirable signature? Obviously value is really only determined when money changes hands between a buyer and seller, but the comments here help me to understand more about the desirability of what I have here, and will help me to be realistic with my expectations when I sell it, by giving some indication of a reasonable market value. And for that help I am grateful.

Like you I am also a bit surprised to see such huge differences and there is no right or wrong of course.

We don't like to talk about prices usually - but Chris asked for it so let's make an exception for once.

So what do we have here (imho)? It is basically the soldbuch of a very young guy who was drafted as an "ordinary" Grenadier when he
became 18 years old. Instead of being sent to an ordinary eastern front Infantry-unit he was lucky and spent some time with a Lehr unit
(maybe not too close to the front - even though those did also frontline duty from time to time).
He then moved to an interesting unit and some weeks (!) before the end of the war he also got some interesting weapons apparently.

That is it. I like the soldbuch and I love entries for cool weapons but why this should be worth 5 or 6 times more than the soldbuch of
a normal Grenadier (who might even have a would badge in black to prove that he saw some action) I do not understand.

Or maybe I have just missed something?

Value is what the seller (here Chris) wants and what the buyer (those who are interested in this Soldbuch) wants to give. Just give a (reasonable) price and see if there is interest. If not drop it or keep it with you if there is you sold it.

Have you ever thought about working as a politician ... maybe for the European Union?

Seriously, you could say what it is worth to you and we would have one more opinion what a (reasonable) price is

What Jochen wrote is not wrong, but what determines the Price is the market. My favourite Soldbuecher are all coming from Vets or their Families (I have shown some of them in the last weeks) and I became most of them fur nuts. That is the Wy I love to collect... But on the other Hand, I have purchased and sold a lot of Soldbuecher, and there are some Rules which are clear Elements who are establishing a discussing Base : overall condition, photo or not (photo never put-in, or photo removed, makes a big difference), Award entries, Entries about evtl camo Tunic, sleeveband, Unit interest, well known Signature in it, and a lot of other points who have to be considered.... which makes sometimes the difficulty to quote them...) For 100 euros by most of the well-known Seller, you get a normal Grenadier in a normal Infantry Regiment with E.K.2 and Black Wound Badge or anything like that, basic Entries. Soldbuch for young Guys who fought in the last War Weeks are especially loved by many collectors. Especialy when they served in a late War Unit with prestigious Name and use late war Weapons like StG 44...

As example, i bought a Führer-Begleit-Brigade soldbuch for less then 200 euro´s, i think it was something like 175? But i forgot. I bought it from a dealer!
The guy fought it the Ardennes offensive with this unit and his only award was the GD cufftitle (It was entered into the soldbuch as he came from another non GD unit prior to his assignment to the FBB).
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

I have a Wehrpass from this unit to and I bought it last year to "the Most Reliable Militaria site". I dont remember how I pay but around 250 Euro may be. Your Solbuch is nice and 708 VGD give you I think the value.

Here is a good example of over valuation of a passbook. Started off at $1600 and down now to 950 Euro. Although a nice Zweitschrift, the Soldbuch alone is about 275-300 Euros at the most.

His illness (code # 6)was a virus infection: measels, scarlet fever or diphteria. So for 2 1/2 month he was in hospital in Döberitz.
