The fightings in Kommerscheidt were absolutely hard. I read about that in the book "116. Panzerdivision".

Page 21 also has the stamp for Ortskommandantur I/442 and Wehrsold entries for late December 1942 and early jan 1943. Ortskommandantur I/442 was stationed in Shakhty from September 1942 onwards, which adds further evidence that this guy was outside the Stalingrad pocket. Quite a few elements of Pz.Rgt.24 were outside the pocket and they fought in various Kampfgruppen, and I dare say that this would be where this soldier earned the EK1.

Yes, he got on 2nd November 1942 the approval to go for leave, but there are not entered the days of leave in detail. I guess that he was on his way for leave and then the Russian attack started and he had to fight outside the pocket.

Thats a very nice group, particularly as it is to my favourite unit!!
I was tempted to by it when I saw it, however problems with the car took precedence and I did not make a bid.

I forget now but was it just 4 Schwadron or the entire Bataillon that was Panther? I have a group to a member of 2 Schwadron somewhere.......same with yours he has 10 days counting for action counting for 1942/43!

The whole 1st Battalion (I. Abteilung), 1st to 4th Schwadron, got the Panther-tanks. After being equipped with the Pz V, they had to stay in the west and fought with 116. Panzer-Division from July to the end of November 1944.
Then O.K.H. gave the order to send I. (Panther) / Panzer-Regiment 24 back to the 24. Panzer-Division, but the situation in Hungary was worse and so they had to fight there from January 1945 till the end of the war under the command of different divisions.

the soldier of Your SB was from Mannheim, Wachtmeister Edmund Stoll was born and lived in Karlsruhe - that is 70 km away!
And they were in the same unit - it is most likely that they knew each other...

Wow another fantastic set!! Is the leave page missing? Got his first assault day while retreating across the Seine!
I have 1 from 1. Schwadron that escaped the pocket in Stalingrad except there sno wehrpass inthe group. Congrats onthis!

Both covers are in place.

This soldier was very young and he joined Panzerregiment 24 after the Stalingrad disaster...
So he only saw action in 1944 and 1945 with PzRgt 24.
