The book is indeed rare, J was fortune enough to get a copy myself.

Balbo was an ex-dragoon from the danish army.

He was awarded the EK II in Demjansk

"Balbo" later became an officer in "Florian Geyer" and later served with SS Ausbildungs Btn "Schalburg" in Ringsted. He died in the Eighties

Difficult to say, it was surely not an bestseller as this was maybe the first about a danish volunteer, J would say 500-1000.

J do know a couple of examples in collcetions although its one to buy at sight.

                Danish Demjansk shields?

Hallo fellow Danes - and others.

Interesting thread. Do you know if any of the Freikorps Danmark men were awarded with the Demjansk Shield after they saw action in the Demjansk Kessel ? I have never seen any pictures of a Dane wearing a Demjansk shield.

                Kind Regards
                Jakob

                    Late Income
                    But:

NO DANES were awarded the Demjansk Shield at their duty with FD.

That od course did not count for Danes or etnic Germans eith danish citizienship in the T-divison.

                    regards Jens

The Skull is from an Russian officer. He found it in Demjansk, i think. All the flesh was eaten by ants.
He had the skull with him every where, and took it with him to Denmark. He called it Stroganoff(or something like that)

He was one of the first Danish Freecorps men, who dared to give out a book about hes time in Frikorps Danmark and Waffen SS.
I think another Danish SS officer veteran named Erik Lærum, helped him. Balbo called him self Ulf Nordensson. The book came out in 1959.
I have been told, that the book is very rare, because alot of the books where destroyed. I don´t know how many books where made.
I was lucky to get a copy, it´s have belonged to an Norwegian SS volunteer.

Maybe Jens have something to add, about Balbo?
The name is Verner Bent Bircow Lassen (my father) - and we still have some books
