    Hi Carsten
    IMO this is a .
It doesnt look like the ones I have seen. Considering the size of the unit (Freikorps Danmark) I would exspect most discs to identical.

      Hi Carsten,
ALWAYS be suspicious of this particular format REGARDLESS of the SS unit involved. Many of these are well known fakes from Eastern Europe - notice only capital letters are used - another WARNING sign. The actual gramma of the unit isn't right either. Stay away from them - in fact run! I've seen these done in many formats including TOTENKOPF, WIKING etc. It's mostly the named SS divisions found on them.

      Cheers,
      Ray.

        Woops,

Forgot to mention you will find many of this type of disc on on the various well known auction sites on the web. Have a look - you will see what I mean.

          Greetings,

Thanks for the feedback...not exactly what I hoped...ohh well However I would like to see what this particular dogtag should look like when this is suppose to be a "bad" example.

To add a little more - this one were found on the old "Reichsstrasse 5" from Kyritz to Perleberg by a hobby-detector guy who have searched for Latvian Voulenteers disc's the past 15 years...but I guess not!?!

          Cheers
          Carsten

              Frikorps dogtag

This should be an original Frikorps Danmark dogtag.

It´s taken from a book, given out short after 1945.

yeah , I agree no good.. The photo isn't so good but it also appears that it was stamped over the corrosion in a couple of spots.., G.

                      Hi Carsten,

I'm afraid I have to agree with everyone else- it's a fake. I think Gaspare is quite right- it looks to have been stamped after it corroded, so it may be an authentic blank, but it's not a real SS-Freikorps Danmark disc. Not only that, but the letters are identical to a fake I've seen marked 'ESTN SS-FRW BRIG'.

                          Dogtag

Im sorry, but the picture is as good as it gets.

It´s scanned from the book: "De så det ske under besættelsen" by Per Eilstrup og Lars Lindeberg. Page 136

There isn´t any story about the dogtag. It just says "An freecorpmans ID-tag"
The dogtag could be from anyone, from the 2. Kmp.

On the next page there´s an picture from a photo album. The picture in the top right is of Werner "Balbo" Birchow-Lassen, a very famous Frikorps Danmark picture.

Interesting thread. Is that the graveyard in the Demjansk-Kessel on the scan of the photo album?

                            With all the best,

                              Werner Birchow-Lassen

Here´s the famous picture of Werner "Balbo" Birchow-Lassen
The Skull is from an Russian officer. He found it in Demjansk, i think. All the flesh was eaten by ants.
He had the skull with him every where, and took it with him to Denmark. He called it Stroganoff(or something like that)

He was one of the first Danish Freecorps men, who dared to give out a book about hes time in Frikorps Danmark and Waffen SS.
I think another Danish SS officer veteran named Erik Lærum, helped him. Balbo called him self Ulf Nordensson. The book came out in 1959.
I have been told, that the book is very rare, because alot of the books where destroyed. I don´t know how many books where made.
I was lucky to get a copy, it´s have belonged to an Norwegian SS volunteer.

Maybe Jens have something to add, about Balbo?
