    Normandie Wehrpass Perhaps?

I acquired a wehrpass a while back to a man that last served with Stab-Kompanie I./Grenadier-Regiment 980 of the 272. Infanterie-Division. Page 12 of his werhpass provides no entry beyond that which indicates his assignment to the newly formed 980. Grenadier-Regiment in December '43. I attempted to find him via the gräbersuche, but could only manage partial matches. There were a few that I suppose could be him, but the information was too scant to rely on with any significant level of confidence.

Thought I would share it with all of you just in case anyone had any ideas how I could gather more information on this man, short of putting a request in with the WASt.

Pages 20 and 21 are not scanned. Page 20 lists the Gewehr 98, lmg 34, and K98. Page 21 reads as follows: Reiter, Fahrer v. Bod u. Sattel. Reiter and Sattel both have lines going through them as if they have been crossed out. I am familiar with these words except for "Bod."

    Thank you.

              Hello Paul

              'Bod' could be Boden.

Maybe he was a cart driver?

Fahrer von Bock und Sattel - Driver/Rider from seat (horse drawn vehicles) and saddle.
This is normally misinterpreted when Fahrer von Bock as the personal driver of Generalfeldmarschall Fedor von Bock!!!!

There is a high chance he was still with the unit in Normandy, however was this a battlefield pickup? If so then that would explain why there are no further entries.
If he was killed or missing, there is a chance that his records are not yet on the German War Graves site.
Or it simply was never kept up to date and he went on to another unit after being destroyed in Normandy.

So, without further information that is pretty much were the story ends.

                  /Ian

Thank you very much, gentlemen. I greatly appreciate your help. Ian, the wehrpass was purchased from Manions a while back, for whatever that is worth.

I have one sort of like this were the last entry is when he was assigned to a unit in Normandy and then nothing more. He is not in the Graves database. I always assumed he was captured etc. and the WP was pocketed by a GI or who knows.

I do remember that thread, John. Do you by any chance know if NARA has a record of POWs taken by Americans during WWII? If so, next to submitting a request with the WASt, that might not be a bad place to start researching. I have a couple of wehrpaesse that I would like to check against such a POW listing, if it does in fact exist.
