WH pass from LW pilot, help needed.

    Hi!
A collegue of mine whos father was a pilot during the war showed me some medals and papers. (ic, pilot badge, frontflugspanne etc) I have promised to try to help him cause he does not know much about it. His father never wanted to talk about what happend. It is really hard to see what is written in the pass. We can not..
Maybe someone can help and maybe tell me more about what he did, were he was stationed, what campaigns he fought in and so on.
All info is of interest! Thanks in advance and merry christmas!

His name was Horst Kurt Helmut Gobert, born 1921-01-26 in berlin.

Do you have a picture of Page 12 & 13? These will show what units he served in. What awards he won will be shown on Page 21 & 23 while pages 32 & 33 will show combat actions and page 34 will shown any wounds/illnesses that required medical treatment.

Sorry - posted before you had finished.

After he completed flying training he served with Zestoerergeschwader 76, a unit primarily equipped with Me-110 & Me-410's, first with the 10th squadron and then the 7th squadron (III Gruppe) of that unit followed by the 4th squadron (II Gruppe)...

Then in Feb 1945 until April he was transferred to a single engined fighter wing, JG 54 - the famed Grunherz...

                          more info if possible?

                          Thanks for the info.
What more can you say from the pages in the pass?
Is it possible to know how many victories he had?
There is a story from his son that he got caught by the police in königsberg.. was he stationed nearby?

                            Wp

                            Karl,

Looks like your pilot finished with the rank of Feldwebel, awarded on 1 March 45.

It appears his awards finally caught up with him as the EK2, EK1 and frontspange in bronze were all awarded on 3 March 45 the award on the bottom I can't quite make out. He was laso awarded the flugzeugfuhrerabzeichen (pilots badge) noted on page 21.

As for victories pages 32 and 33 only indicate he area of service ending on the Russian front and service with the 4. Fligerdivisio prior to that. HIs number of exact front flights is also not listed.

It is possible to look up in the JG51 unit history to see if any victories are listed but i do not have access to it at the moment.

                            Cheers

                            Jeremy

From what I can see he wasn't stationed near Konigsberg. JG 51 were based in the north east corner of Germany and in central/east Germany at the wars end.
Page 20 shows the weapons he was trained on - K98 = rifle, MG 34 = medium machine gun, Pistole 08 = luger pistol and the last entry on that page I can not read.
Page 21 lists the courses he went on.
Page 22 lists his promotions. He started as a Gefreiten (Corporal) and finished the war as a Feldwebel (Sergeant).
Page 23 the bottom of this page lists his awards. I can make out the two Iron Cross entries (EK II Klasse & EK I) but I can not make out the others I am afraid. It does appear as if he was awarded all his awards on the same day.
Page 32 lists the combat 'events'. I may be wrong but I think the first two entries indicate that his unit (ZG 76) participated in the defence of the homeland, while I think the last entry indicates that it was involved on the eastern front (Ostfront). I am afraid I can't read the rest of the entries.

Any victories (and number of flights) would probably of been noted in his Flying Logbook rather then in his WP.

There are far more qualified people on this forum who I am sure will fill in the gaps for you and correct any mistakes I have made. It is certainly a very interesting document.
