    what is the meaning of Verf.Komp. on EKM

    Hey guys,
    What is the meaning of Verf.Komp. on an EKM I posted a pic with an EKM with this as it applies to an Infanterie.ers.btl., will repost if it gets any replies. Is it an SS detachment, or is it simply a sicherungs detachment, or a leadership kompanie (i.e. Stab.Kp.). in particular Verf.Komp. Inf.Ers.Btl.37. Thanks for your help.

    I believe it's a services (support) company. I would think possibly the behind the lines guys that support the front line troops.

      I saw the initial post earlier but I could not understand what the poster wanted. I read the first sentence over several times but then gave up.

      Actually, Verf. was the German abbreviation for Verf******252;gung or Verfahren. In this case it works out as Verf******252;gungskompanie, which translates as duty company or standby company. It was a company at an advance stage of readiness for action or deployment. It's a term that was more common to the SS and the Polizei, but the Heer used it also, albeit less frequently.

      P.S. The abbreviation for a rations or provisioning company would be Verfl.Kp.

          Verfügung means purpose.

          Z.b.V. = Zur besonderen Verfügung = for special purpose.


          to be available = Zur Verfügung stehen.

                  How a word is translated depends on the context in which it is used. In the context specified by Tony where the word is connected to the word "Kompanie", it means duty or standby. This is taken directly from TM 30-506 German Military Dictionary of World War II and from related dictionaries of wartime Wehrmacht terms in English translation.

                  In some other context, it could very well have some other meaning, such as "purpose".
