Hello Robert,
I'am very sure of my theorie that when the division was transfered from Easternfront to the West, that he was left behind in a reserve unit to recuperate from his wound sustained on the Easternfront.
What happend with him after he was declared fit to serve, I don't know.
But it is a nice ss panzer division wp from a ss officer.
Most likely he recieved more awards then just the wounded bagde in black also.
But the wp was war booty so w'll most likely never know.

From reports of service I have the following:
Otto Morgenstern, born 5.12.1921 in Görkau.
January 1945 as a SS Obersturmführer with SS Panzer Grenadier Schule.
April 1945 killed whilst serving with SS Panzer Aufklärungs Abteilung 10 "Frundsberg".
He is not however listed on the German War Graves site.

Thanks for posting it Robert, certainly now with the other Frundsberg division wp on debat here.
So it seems that the Frundsberg division had time to fill in wp's between their operations in the East and their transfer to the Normandy invasionfront

So he was probabily not combat-actif anymore until he joined his old unit again in April 1945.

Yes, I saw the other Frundsberg WP,and hoped this might help in that respect. Ian, thank you so much for letting me know what happened to him. That means there's a replacement WP out there somewhere on the same man!

I very much doubt it, I would imagine that this was never updated....this was common for that time of the war.....however with that said, some clerks made sure everything was in order right until the end of the war!!!Originally posted by RobertE View Post

The time the Ersatz Bataillon received it and sent it to his next unit, it is not suprising that it was never filled in....I have many examples of that in my collection.
But you can not rule out there is not a replacement.....just bear in mind what was happening at the time.
