This Dienstpass came in today. Dienstpass of Johann Zangl, a member of the SS Polizei Reiterabteilung III.
He joined the Reiterabteilung on the 28th of november 1941. In the pass it is mentioned that he served from september 1939 until november 1943 in Poland, also anti partisanaction area Lublin. Also it was involved in "Erntefest" on of the biggest anti partisan actions. After november 1943 he was transferred back to Munic.
What is also very remarkable, is that it was also involved in the hunting of the Jews after the uprising in Sobibor (oktober 1943) and the "Absperrung" of Majdanek (november 1943), which is in Russia
Curilla mentions in his book, that this unit made 42.050 victims (Jews, partisans and locals).
He received the following decorations:
Polizie Dienstauszeichnung, KVK 2nd class without swords, KVK 2nd class with swords, EK2 and IAB. The most decorations are not in his pass mentioned, but are mentioned in the Personalbogen, which is with the set.
What puzzels me is that with which actions he would have received the EK and the IAB. That must have been then with anti partisan actions, I have no proof that they did actual frontduties.
Somewhere (I think after May 1944) he was kicked by a horse on the head and was severly wounded.
With 42.500 victims, this is one of the Polizei units with the highest killing rates. Only 7 units had higher killing rates than Reiterabteilung III
