You are correct my friend Sfl. or SFL. is the Abbr. for Selbstfahrlafette and refers to the Selbstfahrlafette family from Leichte Selbstfahrlafette being Halftrack mounted 2 cm flak cannon to the big boys that were Pz. Selbstfahrlafette being a 10.5 and 12.8 guns on Pz. chassis

You are right : the correct abbreviation of selbst fahrlafette was SFl. or Sfl. But (Sf) has been also used. I have such abreviation on a Soldbuch of Flaksturm Abt. 84. I can't show it to you because my scanner is out of order.

I will take a look when I get home next week...I'm not so convinced the (s.F) abbreviation is Siebelfähre as it is a lower case "s"!

However I do not think it is Selbstfahrlafette either!

Next week hopefully will get to the bottom of it

            Thanks Jeff,

            Sounds about right

Interesting that the Pioniere unit is boat related...as mentioned above, one that I have does have a Steuermannschein!!!

I will post it next week.

As can be seen from his units page, he served with Schiffsflak-Ersatzbatterie beim Kommando der Schiffe und Boote der Luftwaffe based in Kiel-Holtenau prior to posting to F******228;hrenflottille der Luftwaffe Nr. 5.

8.7.1943 to Seemännische Fährenausbildungs Batterie, then to Schiffsflak-Ersatzbatterie no doubt part of Kommando der Schiffe und Boote der Luftwaffe based in Kiel-Holtenau.

April 1944 to leichte Flak Abteilung 866 (Eisenbahn Transportschutz) providing railway transport protection in central Russia and East Prussia.

No exciting awards like the one above, only Marksman Lanyard and Wound Badge in Black.

Even though the unit was supposed to be in Italy and Africa, he only appears have served in Italy and Sicily.

Underneath the awards are two Wehrsold entries dated 16.12.42 and 20.1.43 from Frontleitstelle Messina (Sicily).

Above this entry there is also a payment in Lira but the FP Nr. is illegible.

However, this entry on page 14 appears to be the same as that on page 22 from FP Nr. 45500 - Frontleitstelle 29 under der Deutschen General beim Hauptquartier der ital. Wehrmacht, formerly Frontleitstelle Neapel (Naples).

Also January-February 1943 he is recorded as having jaundice in Krankenrevier Bagnoli.

Came with other military and civilian paperwork and his dog tag..

Interestingly his ID card (Ausweis) is rather "battered" but he bears an uncanny resembeleance to one of our moderators!?!?!?!?

For a "Flak-buff" like me, that's a particularly interesting collection, Ian. Thanks for putting it up for viewing.
