            Auschwitz WP on E-Stand

Does anyone else have issues with this wehrpass on E-Stand?

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=196112

            Bad Points
            • SS T-Sturmbann stamps are poor quality - letters not straight
            • some of the date stamps appear to have been stamped one number and one letter at a time
            • went straight to unit - no training or admin units
            • handwriting and signatures in the from page 11 onwards distinctly odd
            • got promoted to Sturmann on first day with unit - Rommel would have been proud of that meteoric career rise
            • promotion entry signed by an Oberscharführer (possible but would expect an officer) whose signature doesn't appear to match any names in lists of that rank who served at Auschwitz...SS-Oberscharführer Maximilian Grabner seems to be the closest
            • when did Auschwitz become part of the Waffen-SS as per the stamp?
            • Hofman doesn't appear on any lists of personnel known to serve at Auschwitz...there was a Hans Hofman but he was a Rottenführer
            • the price...if this was an original Auschwitz piece it certainly wouldn't be $575 especially given the seller knows the market very well
None of the above alone would condemn this piece but all together it doesn't look good.

            Good Points
            • the photo looks to be original
            Cheers,
            Gary.

Not my thing SS or KZ stuff but it did catch my eye.

Anyone have any known originals with which to compare?

In almost all concentrationcamps the outside guard dutie was done by whermacht units mostly landeschutzen battalions, they were inventionly in late1944 administrationly taken over by the SS. The concentrationcamp organisation is quite complex! I w'll not go in to detail about this item.

But this wp is not my thing either if it was a whermacht soldier taken over by the SS his previous unit would have been marked in his wp.

Like the starter of this thread said before, to many things are not like the should be normaly.

As the seller of this Wehrpass, I feel obligated to respond. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with the entries in this ID and I will give the buyer a lifetime guarantee. Since issues were brought up, I will address them point by point:

                  Bad Points
                  • SS T-Sturmbann stamps are poor quality - letters not straight
Not true - the SS T-Sturmbann stamps are of good quality and are consistent with the stamps in other Auschwitz IDs that I own and have owned. Letters not straight? Yes they are.
                  • some of the date stamps appear to have been stamped one number and one letter at a time
Although I can see why this can be said, I don't agree. The month, date and year are not exactly even, but this is typical of the date stamps that have rolling bands, especially when they get older and the rubber stretches. There may also be another explanation for this. Again, I have seen this occur on other known originals.
                  • went straight to unit - no training or admin units
Not unusual for this period of the war. This soldier was classified as Landwehr II and "fit for labor" when his Wehrpass was issued in March 1944. I am rather certain that he remained at his job as a Hilfsarbeiter until he was directed to Auschwitz in November 1944 and would not have necessarily had to have received basic training to be a guard. After arriving at the camp in November 1944, he probably was issued a rifle and oversaw prisoners, not a particularly complex job. I might also mention that this soldier was assigned to Auschwitz III, the Monowitz camp, where inmates were used for labor. I think if someone intended to fake an Auschwitz ID, they would put the soldier in Auschwitz I or II, the more notable areas of the Auschwitz complex.
                  • handwriting and signatures in the from page 11 onwards distinctly odd
Don't agree, at least it would require a further clarification of what "odd" means. Too general of a statement.
                  • got promoted to Sturmann on first day with unit - Rommel would have been proud of that meteoric career rise
Not unusual to see a soldier receive the rank of Sturmmann (not Sturmann as written above) - what does Rommel have to do with anything?
                  • promotion entry signed by an Oberscharführer (possible but would expect an officer) whose signature doesn't appear to match any names in lists of that rank who served at Auschwitz...SS-Oberscharführer Maximilian Grabner seems to be the closest
Again, not unusual. The Auschwitz personnel name list is not complete. The name is definitely not Grabner. The line above the second or third letter would indicate that the letter is a "u".
                  • when did Auschwitz become part of the Waffen-SS as per the stamp?
All the known original Auschwitz IDs that I have observed have Waffen SS as part of the stamp. No further comment.
                  • Hofman doesn't appear on any lists of personnel known to serve at Auschwitz...there was a Hans Hofman but he was a Rottenführer
Again, the personnel list is not complete. Incidentally, I am waiting for a response from the Auschwitz Museum concerning Josef Hofmann.
                  • the price...if this was an original Auschwitz piece it certainly wouldn't be $575 especially given the seller knows the market very well
I disagree. I think it is a fair price for a soldier who had only about two months of service at Auschwitz. Personally I think many KZ IDs are overpriced, especially ones from Sachsenhausen; however, I do agree that Auschwitz IDs command more money. I needed to raise some money quickly and wanted to offer it for a fair price. The price had nothing to do with it being suspect.

None of the above alone would condemn this piece but all together it doesn't look good.

                  Don't agree.

                  • the photo looks to be original
                  It is.

I am selling this Wehrpass to the buyer in good conscience and would gladly refund his money at any point.

Gary makes some good points, Barry some good answers.

The argument that carries the biggest weight must surely be that odd Auschwitz-stamp with "Waffen-SS" on it. Never seen that before. Can anybody confirm this stamp also appears in 100% sure genuine Auschwitz-Wehrpässe?

Auschwitz guard's Soldbuch clearly showing Waffen SS as part of KZ Auschwitz stamp.
