Here is my attempt at translation (Hope my poor english makes sense.):
"Liebe Mutter!
GruĂź an alle."
"Dear Mother!
Since I know nothing new, I wanted to send you a card at least. I am still well, I hope your are also still well. So far I have got no mail from you, today I received ... from the 11th of January, which of course is rather old by now. Also Fritz has been here yesterday. The cake was very good, everything else too. I am going to conclude for today, greetings from your Hein. Greetings to all."

Quite possible. (At least the card seems to indicate that the mother would definitely know who Fritz is.)
If so, he is probably a good deal younger. Considering the late date and the military situation at that time, he doesn't sound like he's fighting anywhere. Fritz , on the hand, probably would be - considering his birthdate of 1927.

Interestingly enough, it's not even close to Berlin. Coburg lies at the northernmost border of Bavaria.
[EDIT: Unfortunately, I can't "deciper" his place of birth which might shed some light. All I got is ...gshausen. ]Last edited by Folkert D.; 08-08-2006, 07:18 AM.
