wehrpass and Soldbuch of ma father
My name is Dr. Alfred Hotzel.
Looking at the scans of the “Dienstausweis” and the “Soldbuch”, I recognized immediately that these items belonged to my father. Date and place of birth are correct.
On the right side there are two entries: ‘granting of leave’ to the town of Ilsenburg, which is the town where my mother lived at that time and where my twin sister and I were borne in 1944.
The first lines on the left side of the Soldbuch is written in „Sütterlin“ (german handwriting – it developed for round about 500 years and was used till end of ww2)
The meaning is:
„Auszeichnungen
Kriegsverdienstkreuz
2.Kl. mit Schwertern“
The last line has a severe mistake, it must read “Deutsches Kreuz”, not “Deutshes Kreuz”
I think that the two last this entries are faked, also no person on the picture shows my father.Comment

Thank you for confirming what we suspected. It is a shame when original documents are "faked" to get a few more $$$.
Interesting also that the photo with this Soldbuch does not show your father! Another trick by some dealers to make the item more "sellable".

This is quite amazing, the son of the Soldbuchinhaber finds his own father's Soldbuch on the internet and he, of all people, tells the owner that it is a fake.
I wonder, how did this Soldbuch arrive on the commercial market?Comment

Were I the current possessor of this Soldbuch, I would make efforts to return it to the son after proofs were submitted to confirm family status (i.e., a redacted birth certificate, etc.)
I once repatriated a cigarette case with engraved familiewappen to the current family after I tracked them down (somewhat easier done than thought because of the Coat of Arms). This family had lost everything after the war pertaining to their former status (E. Germany). The joy in returning the cigarette case was more valuable to me than keeping it.
I have a couple of Gebirgjaeger Wehrpassen I'd love to repatriate.

Concerning the history of this Soldbuch, I want to give you the following details:
My father was born on 14th December 1900 in Quedlinburg. Until the end of WWII he was working at the German patent office in Berlin. Like all civil servants he was obliged to join the “Flakabwehr” in Berlin, and in the very last days of WWII he was forced to go to the southern part of Germany with the “Heimatverteidigung”, which was the last try to defend Germany. In this area he was imprisoned as POW by the American army. Because he was pharmacist (like my mother, my brother, my twin sister and me), he was working in the sanitary section of the POW camp until he was released in about 1947/48.
This was the time I met my father for the first time in my life. My sister and I would be very curious about the last “Heimaturlaub” which is entered in the Soldbuch, it should be around June/July 1943. After the war my father didn’t go back to the patent office, together with several other persons, he founded a pharmaceutical factory (Artesan) and a pharmacy.
My father died a few weeks before his 65th birthday in the town of Viernheim.
The DK, mentioned in the Soldbuch is still in possession of my family.
Our family would be very pleased to get these documents back, if there is any chance I will send scans of my birth document to your person email address.Comment

You are beginning to confuse me Dr. Hotzel!
In your first thread you say that the KVK I and DK entries are in the Soldbuch are fake.
In your second post you now you say you have DK still in your possession!?!?

soldbuch enquiry
Hi all and thanks for your replies (ahotzel did you receive my personal message). As to how this got onto the market I don't know but I can confirm that it was purchased on Manions (yes I can here you all going to go off on one again as I read the numerous other threads regarding them) and I bought it approx 4yrs ago. Its history before this I have no idea. I would willingly return this item to his son and will contact him regarding this.Comment
