Stecksplitter in the left knee. He was short-changed on the Ost Medaille as the entry states he was awarded the ribbon only. All that and he just got a lousy ribbon!

This Soldbuch came in a big lot of assorted papers from different people. Among these papers I found a couple of more documents related to the same soldier.
Here is a postwar Volksbund membership card. This confirms that he survived the warAttached FilesLast edited by Ironcrown; 05-01-2020, 02:44 PM.

He was awarded this on 23 Aug 1942. The award was established by Hitler on 26 May 1942. It took a while to get the manufacturers engaged to produce the medal, but it took far less time to get the weavers to produce ribbons.
There were a lot of cases where the ribbon was awarded as soon as it was available, because you could put that in your buttonhole. I'm certain they noted that he only got the ribbon so he could request the actual medal at a later time.

Hello !
1.) Regarding the Ostmedaille entry :
Very well explained by Wiking44, I would fully agree.
(Either you qualified for the medal or not. There was no "minor" version.)
2.) The handwriting :
I have real difficulties as well, especially at the end.
The text says :
.... .... .... ..... ..... , ... Werte !
Herzlichst , Euer Alois
--------------
The letter clearly refers to his (very recent) promotion from OG to ROB Uffz.
(perhaps he sent a photo, showing him with his new shoulderboards and the ROB Litzen).
The second part is something pathetic, but I cannot read the last part, and so I am not sure, what he wants to say.
Best regards,
Archi
