    S&L RK for sharing/examination

    Hello Folks -
I purchased this cross appoximately 11 years ago and am just dusting off elements of my collection and re-organizing things. I also recently invested in an affordable digital microscope and it's energized my interest in the scientific part of the hobby to a greater degree. Attached are pictures of my S&L cross, I "believe" this may be considered the type A variant? It's interesting that the frosting appears very yellow when I scope it greatly. I am not sure if that comes across in these photos.

Yes - I know it only has a single loop and that is not correct. Oddly enough, this KC is attributed to Von Gersdorff, and the best photo I have of him wearing his cross clearly shows a single loop ... so who knows, right - I fall back on the often said, phrase, "buy the artifact, not the story" . ... With my new "port-a-scope" ... Additional photos of center, as well as a "scare" on 3 o'clock arm , and apparent marks on reverse between 12 and 9 o'clock arm ...

Nice cross and nice pictures, thanks for sharing! Is the Loop soldered together?

Here is the pic i was referring to. I have to go back and look at the loop question.

                  Hi Stefan -
These pics are poor because I used my phone, but... I can't find any evidence of soldering on the loop at all ... it looks perfectly round and solid as I look at it with a basic loop. Dan

Loop has to be joined at some point (unless Von Gersdorff was a magician!)

                    Very nice cross!

I understand Leroy … it just looks very clean, nothing sloppy.
I'll have to look at it closer with a better tool over the weekend. Dan

Thanks! That is interesting. Seems that this loop was done by someone professional.
                        Thats a very fine cross!

Stefan - the loop was very professionally done and I am sure hand burnished... I pulled out the scope and I am having a very tough time finding the seam, so it surely wasn't done hastily! - I wonder if it lends any more credence to the provenance of the cross? ... I guess not.
