                Hello Gentlemen,

I thought I had launched an interesting thread on attributed RK, but as usual on this particular forum, good theads and ideas are kidnapped and parasited by some, well often the same.

I understand that some people can exist only thanks to controvertial maters, but if some (you should know who you are) need to feed their ego in topics with non added value comments, additionally often out of the subject,

If some need to be funny or out of topic of militaria they can post in Die Kneipe.

I would thanks the moderators to make some cleaning in such threads as the risk is to have less and less potential readers and participants to avoid this particular forum because of some who add few, for them and their fans there is always Die Kneipe.

                Best regards,

                Michel

Gentlemen, while I like to encourage free speech in this Forum, let's remind ourselves occasionally that there are (very reasonable) rules and regulations regarding what should and should not be posted. Take the time to read the Forum Guidelines. (It is easy to forget them.) In this instance, I wish to remind all posters to respect the initiators of threads by keeping the subject matter of those threads on the topic those initiators intended them to be on.

Here, to refresh our collective memory, is Section VI of the Forum's Posting Conduct Guidelines:

"2. Members are to respect the designated TOPIC and CATEGORY AREAS when posting their comments. This includes off-topic and promotional comments that may be inappropriately posted in the wrong topic or forum. Those who post comments that do not relate to the category or thread/topic may have their comments closed, moved, or deleted without notice. Members who post portions of appropriate on-topic remarks mixed with off-topic remarks that appear to the Moderators to be a subterfuge to commandeer the topic toward a different subject not intended by the topic’s original author may also have their posts removed without notice. Continual inappropriate posting may lead to a suspension of forum privileges. Members should respect the discussion of a specific topic. Undermining a topic by posting a pattern of unrelated comments does not convey the necessary respect toward the topic author or other contributors."

I don't want to have to take the time to go through threads and edit out posts which are not relevant to the topic at hand, so I would appreciate everybody's cooperation in this matter.

                      Thank you.
                      George

I am not sure what Michel's "beef" was...kidnapped may be a slight exaggeration.

I think the most offense posts here were the posting of guidelines and his post. I asked a question, got a couple responses, including Dave's...it went "humorous" for a bit but Pascal brought another RK in...

                        Now it is being "Kidnapped".

If anyone has a question about how any Forum is run, or how a thread is going, please take it up in a PM to the Moderator or Administrator, and not on the public Forum. Thanks.

Alrighty then.. getting back on track....

The question about provenance is valid and worthy of discussion. I have no problem with it and I don't think Michel does either.

In my case I have "big" three groups with provenance - one (posted here) that is 100% via the family, another German Cross group with a note from the daughter, and yet another (Knight Cross/German Cross) with no "proof". I am very comfortable with all 3 of them, but in a world where incredulity is the name of the game, I have no problem with someone questioning that last one. That's up to them. But the group isn't in their collection - it's in mine - and the day it changes hands it'll go to someone who apreciates it as I do, not someone who will break it and sell it to the four winds.

I had one Knight's Cross that was identifiable as the cross being worn in a photograph of the officer. It was the correct style cross in the photo, and also had unique characteristics that were clearly evident in the photo. It came out with other items belonging to this officer, including a letter from the officer, the RK document, and some other items including his visor cap (with initials in it, and eagle removed). I will try to locate photos.

Short of coming from a family member, this is still the most satisfactory form of 'provenance' in my book - being UNDENIABLY able to determine it is the one worn by the recipient in his photo based on characteristics of the wear to the cross, as is Tim's 3/4 ring.

I would say Richard Gordons is a candidate for such also....maybe he could confirm that. (In another thread, if it's going to upset anyone....)
