Also I see no loop ends perhaps suggesting a solid rather than wire loop?

Just the loop turned upside down.

I purchased a 1939 Grand Cross with the '800' content mark set into
the upper arm of the Cross near the suspension ring that was a
beautiful piece back in 1987, & it was picked-up at the 'Rochester
Dome' Show held in Rochester, New York....Sold it to a collector
in 1988, living in Pickering, Ontario.

I own a beautiful 'stickpin' for the 1939 Breast Star to the 1939 Grand Cross.
3pc with a beautifully detailed 1939 Iron Cross separately attached to a
'gold' metal 8-pointed Star that is nicely designed & with the separately
            soldered-on properly knurled stickpin....Unmarked.

I believe the 1939 Breast Star to the 1939 Grand Cross is displayed
in a case at West Point.

Sorry for the poor quality picture....Digital camera I wasn't used to using
            at the time.
