Grand Cross of the Iron Cross 1939
Hello Everyone,
These are certainly impressive pieces, historically important, a pleasure to view.
While the Iron Cross series is not an area of my collecting focus, it is very interesting. I do have a related question.
If memory serves correctly, I believe that I saw a pair of Grand Crosses offered at auction several years ago. No ribbons involved, only the crosses themselves. The interesting characteristic that I remember is that the core material on these Crosses was not made of metal, but of graphite.
Is anyone else aware of such a variant? Period manufacture? Post war? Fantasy?Comment

It was not graphite!
It was onyx, and it was Herman Historica.

From the closeup photo The ring (Ose) 'appears' to dip into the frame further than the known Juncker GC's. Perhaps just a lighting issue....Comment
