Earlier would perhaps conform....because it's been my observation that the small, catch i.e thin stem and APEX head on the thin stem, is evident on shall we say 'earlier' boxes certainly as opposed to later boxes. (Remeber thick stem, apex head to the catch, cause's a concern for a second look and second thoughts when not in conjuction with a square catch)

More than anything, I've found this type of catch on Luft boxes believed and deemed to be pre or 'purported' early war. It's a thought, but not indicative or a suggestion premise bound.

I've yet though to encounter a 'Flowers War' medal box with this nature of catch, again it means nothing. I'm just thinking out aloud really and throwing thoughts into the ring.

      Tom,

I can get the velvet inserts up just a tiny bit by 'tapping' them out. I had a look and as far as I can see there are no KB marks underneath, although I cannot get a decent look because they won't come out fully. I was tempted to get the periosteal elevator out, but thought twice! Interestingly, the case with the double hinge, according to the seller, came from the family of Major Hans Keppler who was Kommandur III Kampfgw. 1 'Hindenburg' when he was killed over Russia. Aparently a Stuka crashed into the bomber he was piloting. He was awarded his KC on August 20th 1942 and killed a few weeks later, presumably the cross went down with him.

Thanks for trying, Harry! I have a square cornered case with the double hinge that has an early 800 juncker RK. It has the KB and the digits in the cardboard. I would bet with a periosteal elevator and a little time that would be revealed on your's as well.

Nonetheless, great pick ups and thanks for posting them. I am always interested in seeing the textured paper from the side, as it seems the legit cases have alot more attention here, which is lacking in the fakes. As Marcus has pointed out as well, the catch release is thinner as well. Internally, the release mechanism lacks that cheesy spring arrangement that is seen on the fakes. Thanks- please post the images if you are able to get the case open.
