This S&L DKiG came as part of a Luftwaffe grouping from the family of the vet. The vet was a luftwaffe pilot and parts of the grouping - the RK and DKiG were replaced in the early post war years due to the originals being lost.
At first it may look like a regular post war produced S&L DK. Especially when looking at the "flaw" on the reverse of the starbust.
However the finish is better than on other post war S&L DK's and also early 1957'er DK's of my collection.
The gilded ring with it's polished highlights has a deeper tone of gold. Difficult to show in pics....
The rivet work looks better than usual on these pieces. The pin also doesn't have the typical postwar "57er scrape" on the pin, so it might be a wartime leftover ?
I believe this piece is post war, but might be pre-dating the 1957er DK's.
One of the two RK's that came with the grouping is an unmarked B-frame swastika core RK. The other one is an early 1st pattern 1957 core RK.
I would be interested in hearing your opinion on this German Cross.
best regards,
Alex
