Any ideas WHY these makers would up and change their setups? If they were breaking - like the Army para badge - I can understand the change. With that one they went through multiple changes until they got it right (and they still broke - surprise, a guy is jumping out of a freaking plane and landing hard).

It could be a simple matter of economics. Maybe one style was just less expensive than the other.

Hardware of 3 wartime crosses from S&L. Two hardware setups are nearly the same but the pins on those are slightly different.

            Cheers.

I once owned a post-war assembled (from original parts) SL EK1 w/ the same hardware as #1 in your pics, complete w/ correct incused MM. I don't personally care for this hinge type on an SL because of this experience...

How did you find out it was a postwar production ?

                  Thanks.

The cross was crudely assembled and finished. I have also seen others just like the one I had, including the same crude assembly. This was in the pre internet days, but my feeling at the time was that these were "occupation" pieces rapidly assembled from left over stock and sold to GIs after the war. That made sense to me and still does...they weren't wartime production, that's for sure..

Peter...no. That was one of the things that set them apart in comparison to the SL EK1s w/ the box hinge...
