    S&L EK1 Hardware

When did Steinhauer & Luck change their hardware on the EK1. Did they use more than 2 different setups during the war ?

    Thanks

No trick question. Both setups shown are wartime S&L. The information i get could help me regarding early 1957 crosses.

      Cheers.

        Well Booo!

It's been a bit quiet so I was hoping for a good go-around!! Why, however the change of hardware?

Maybe they just got a better deal on the second style of hinge and pin?

Here's the hardware on one of the EK 1s they made in 2002, BTW.

              George.
With other words, hardware nr 2 would be a late setup ?

              Cheers.

Oh, I didn't have any other words. I was just showing you what their most recent hardware looked like.

Why did BH Mayer have two set-ups? We have two generally agreed-upon hinge-catch combos for marked 26 EK1s...

I think we really never discuss this matter about different hardware on the EK1.

                    Cheers.

Here are two "L/59s" with different hinge/pin setups.

                        BH Mayer marked 26 EK1 hinge-catch

Here are the two BH Mayer marked 26 hinge catch setups for the EK1. Both are from totally mint and frosty crosses. Note the one on the left was described by Frank as an earlier, and rarer, version. I have no further info on his statement, nor any reason to question it, but I think it is an important tidbit. If it is an earlier version, why move from a larger well seated catch to the smaller one? Also note the "later" setup also has a smaller hinge plate - less material, if that is the issue...

                        Marc

                          Marc,

Mine has the set up on the right. I've heard from more experienced people than myself that both of these are OK. As far as which is rarer, dunno. Peter Whamond just had one of each, both mint for sale on his site. And both are sold...

Just looking, I would have guessed the set up with the smaller hinge would have been earlier than the larger one, but I defer to the old hands here.

The "26" setup on the left is much rarer than the one on the right.
